Western Bar

 |

Situated in the neighborhood of private estates off Upper Thomson Road, Western Bar is a cosy and quaint restaurant with a cowboy theme and raving reviews from HungryGoWhere.

Entering the premise for the first time, I quickly found myself liking the ambience of the place, not because of the cowboy theme, but because it was quiet, with warm, earthy walls which add to the cosiness of the place. The welcoming smiles and service of the staff also made our dinner a very pleasant experience.

Flipping through the menu, my friend cracked a joke that it's hard enough for the sober to look at the drinks menu because of its small font size, how much more difficult would it be for the drunks who want to order more drinks?

Jokes aside, my friend's tasty humor did present a great deal of truth. Probably the management should look into that.

Since I was riding, I ordered a non-alcoholic drink - Ribena Litchee Freeze. Not sure if the misspelling of Lychee was on purpose, but the drink was tasty, with refreshing lychee bits. A must have to cool you down on a hot day, or a humid night.

Before we ordered our Mains, my friends and I decided to order a few Sides to accompany their beer. Usually I don't really fancy Sides because it takes up a portion of my stomach space, and the let's just say that I haven't come across very good Sides before.

But my oh my! Western Bar did prove that Sides can be very appetizing and delicious! Needless to say, we enjoyed the Cheese Mussels (oh it was so juicy and nicely done; not overly cheesy or raw), Wings (which was also juicy and not too oily), as well as the Combo which included Nuggets, Wedges, Onion Rings, and Samosa.

I would think that the Combo, being very typical fried food, would be oily and average tasting. But I was pleasantly surprised because the wedges, fries, and nuggets were not too hard, over-fried, or too oily. Instead, it was soft on the inside, and a tad crispy on the outside.

Having had our Sides, I was amazed that I still had an appetite for Mains. So I ordered this Boneless Chicken Thigh with Egg.

For the meat eaters and those who like to have value-for-money meals, this is probably worth it because of the generous portions of the chicken thigh. It is so big, that I'm starting to suspect if it's really a chicken or not.

Anyway, I didn't really fancy this because I thought that it was cooked a little inconsistently - with some parts of the meat being soft and others being a tad hard and overcooked. Then again, it might be just me being overly-picky on my food.

My friends however, did enjoy their Burger and Ribs. Hmm, I must keep a mental note to try that the next time.

All in all, I did enjoy my gastronomical experience at Western Bar. But what I particularly like is that their prices are very, very reasonable, which makes it a major plus point for those who wants Good-&-Cheap food.

That said, what seemed to be a quiet cafe turned out to be a rowdy one when a group of teenagers starting hogging the Fooseball table and creating a din. So it is probably quiet when there is not much patrons.

Then again, if you are acceptable with some "conversational noise", then there's nothing to worry. After all, it is "Bar" for heaven's sake. Not a fine dining restaurant.
