Onboard Doulos

 |

Instead of the usual Youth Service held in church every Saturday, the Detonate Youth Ministry decided to head of the church walls, and have its service onboard Doulos.

Doulos was purchased in 1977 by GBA Ships e.V. (previously known as Good Books for All), a private, non-profit, charitable organisation registered in Germany.

Over 20 million visitors have been welcomed on board for tours, programmes and visits to the floating book fair. With stops in over 500 ports of call, this unique ship has visited more than 100 countries in including Africa, the Americas, Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East and many island nations.

Doulos is recognised in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's oldest active ocean-going passenger ship.

So the youths gathered in church first, before heading out to take a bus to Harborfront where we first had our dinner before boarding Doulos.

Admission is free but tickets are required in order to attend their services.

When we arrived at the ship, there wasn't much of a queue to my surprise. Perhaps we were early but that's a good thing anyway. I really dislike crowded places. Sigh.

I guess we were early because when we boarded the ship, the place was still pretty empty. But slowly, people started streaming in, both to see the bookshop and attend their service.

Here's dear and I while waiting for the service to start. As you can see, Dear's being goofy.

When the service finally commenced, we had a short introduction, followed by a very interesting game where Sister Ivy was blindfolded and had to cross different 'obstacles' formed by us. We were supposed to distract her with our loud noises while she has to listen to Brother Ivin's voice for instructions in order to clear the 'obstacles'.

When the service ended, we headed to the deck where the bookshop was located. The books are really cheap (or cheaper than usual), but of course the books are not in tip top condition.

So I was walking around, looking at the books that they have when I came across this book staring at me from a distance. Immediately, I chuckled and showed dear. He laughed too! This book is so "BOOMZ!" man! Should probably buy this book for Ris Low haha.

All in all, it was a good, simple, and light-hearted service as well as a good time of fellowship with each other. It was certainly a nice change from the usual Youth Service we have and you should go too!
