Well, I don't mind because I find it stressful to be riding either amongst cyclists or runners, and taking on the role of being a lead bike, medic bike, sweeper etc.
I mean, what happens if I lead the marathon runners onto the wrong route, or if my medic pillion is too heavy for me to manage? That would be so embarrassing!
But this year's OCBC cycle, I decided to help out on my own bike (yes I've upgraded from pillion to rider) and give it to try.
Why the change in mindset? Well there was a shortage of riders and I reckon that being the last bike - following the last cyclist - ain't that difficult.
So at 5:00am, we assembled at the starting point for the race - F1 Pit - and wait for further instructions before being deployed.
From 5:30am to 8:00am, it was a whirlwind of activity. Long story short, I ended up not being able to fulfill my role because of a short hiccup on their end. Regardless, I still managed to follow the last cyclist up till a certain point before he chose to drop out, and me ending my duties there and then.
Looking back, though it was tiring and a little stressful, it was nice to know that I'm part of a big event; helping out with whatever way I can. Thank you Kruzer, for this opportunity. It was certainly an interesting experience!
