Understanding Anemia

 |

I remember how I've always been terribly afraid of crossing onto a boat, roller blading, or even walking across the wooden boardwalk of the Kelong.

I honestly thought it was just me having issues with balance and the phobia of standing on shaky ground.

That's why I've always admired how people could stand or walk by the sides of the boat, or how they would strut across the wooden platforms of Kelong, or even roller blade so well.

For a while now, I thought it was because I had small ankles.

But after stumbling onto a site that educates Anemia, I was shocked! Here's why:

Symptoms of Anemia
The symptoms of iron deficiency anemia (if any) are:
  • Paleness
  • Weakness
  • Tiredness
  • Chest pains (in severe cases)
  • Shortness of breath (in severe cases)
  • Heart palpitations (in severe cases)
  • An increased heart rate especially during exertion (in severe cases)
  • Rapid breathing
  • Low blood pressure
The symptoms of vitamin B12 anemia are similar to those of iron deficiency anemia but can also cause:
  • Jaundice
  • Numbness and tingling in the hands and feet
  • Equilibrium difficulties
  • Confusion
  • Personality changes and depression
  • The symptoms of folic acid deficiency are similar to vitamin B12 anemia.
Symptoms of anemia may also include:
  • Black, maroon or bloody stool
  • Abdominal pain
  • Weight loss
  • Fatigue
  • Chest pain

Everything fits! The Weight Loss, Abdominal Pain, Chest Pains, Fatigue, Numbness and Tingling in Hands and Feet, Low Blood Pressure, Rapid Breathing (Sometimes), Weakness, and more importantly.. Equilibrium Difficulties! :D

How true is that? Now I know I don't have weak ankles. It's just part of the whole package!
