Hebrews 2:18

 |

Recently the youths in Detonate Youth Ministry embarked on a fasting initiative for an upcoming event.

The fasting, unlike the usual fasting I've experienced, required us to fast from our favorite food or craving for 2 months.

It is indeed an arduous and difficult task, and suffice to say, we (myself included) being imperfect human beings are tempted to let our human desires and nature take over.

Even for myself, I do struggle to break this fast "discreetly" when no one's looking. But each time I am tempted, I am reminded of Hebrews 2:18.

Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

Isn't it true? Jesus was tempted while He was on earth and I strongly believe that His temptation was far greater than us, considering the fact that He was in the desert without food. If it was me, I'd definitely succumb to temptation if I haven't been eating for 40 days.

So I am encouraged to know that Jesus faced temptations like us and was able to overcome, because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
