My Cockroach Lunch

 |

Warning! This post contain an image of a cockroach in my lunch. If you've just had your meal, I suggest you give this post a miss.

..

If was like any other lunch hour, where my colleagues and I headed to the usual coffeeshop located across the street.

Craving for something spicy and soupy, I decided to order a bowl of Tom Yam Sliced Fish Brown Noodle Soup.

PS: Previously, I swore never to eat their Tom Yam because I find it ridiculous to pay $1 more for Tom Yam Soup. But then again, cravings are hard to reject. If your stomach wants to eat, you just have to pay that $1 more.

When my food finally arrived, I ate it with no hesitation as I was hungry. But since it was getting a bit too spicy, perspiration was tickling down my temples and I decided to pause my meal and cool down a bit with my cool beverage.

As I started to resume my meal, I noticed what seemed like a fried spring onion at the far corner of my bowl.

Since I don't fancy spring onions, I usually take it out of my meal and leave it aside. So as I looked closer at the "Spring Onion" in preparation to pick it up, I saw that there are fine hairs coming from the sides of the "Spring Onion".

That's when I froze with wide-eyed terror.

"Those.. look.. like.. LEGS!" my inner voice shouted to my head.

Immediately, I pushed the bowl away, spewed an expletive, and covered my mouth.

My colleagues who were shocked and flabbergasted asked me what happened.

Speechless, and with both hands covering my mouth, I pointed to the "Spring Onion" in my soup.

One curious colleague then prodded the "Spring Onion" with my chopstick and gasp!

Yes! This is what was in my soup! THIS FILTHY REVOLTING INSECT!

At this time, I realized that my short lunch drama had garnered some stares from the surrounding tables. My colleague and I decided to ignore the stares and approach the stall uncle / auntie.

To my surprise, both of them seemed hardly apologetic about the cockroach in my lunch, and even replied hastily in Chinese that "it's always like that one laaaa.."

Well auntie, since "it's always like that one", I think you won't be seeing me for a while.

Fed up and dumbfounded at the reply, I demanded for a refund, which was given with some reluctance.
