First, she started the appointment by showing pictures and x–rays about my teeth condition, and that was where we laughed over my baby molar, which had incredibly short roots as stuck out like a sore thumb in the x–rays.
Then, she went on to explain about how many teeth she would extract – FOUR! Well actually I was aware of these necessary extractions as I consulted other orthodontist prior to my current one, but I was just secretly hoping for two – just my baby molars. Pffffttt!
Following which, she mentioned about the type of braces, the cost, the cost of retainers and other miscellaneous fees. I decided to go ahead with the normal metal braces (those that you can change colorful rubber bands from time to time), which is the cheapest – $3100. That's cheaper than National Dental Centre's quote to me!
Finally, she advised me on how many sessions I need before putting on the braces – First session to clean and polish, second session to extract one side of my teeth (1 upper and 1 lower), third session to extract the other side of my teeth, and do a simple filling.
After doing a simple calculation on the total cost of my orthodontic treatment, I informed her of my decision to go ahead.
But just as I was about to book my next appointment for cleaning and polishing, her assistant advised that there is an empty slot on the Oral Health Therapists's (She's the one who does the cleaning and polishing) schedule next as her patient cancelled last minute. Immediately, I agreed and I must applaud the Dr Leong Peiqi, who was extremely delicate and gentle with her skills! As a result, the cleaning and polishing session went on very well for me, as I experienced close to none discomfort, and did not flinch at all!
Anyway, I've booked all my appointments for my upcoming extractions and braces treatment and I'm both eager yet afraid of the pain that I have to go through.
Well, as the saying goes "no pain, no gain."
Damn. I better have beautiful teeth after this whole treatment.
