So anyway, I arrived punctually at Ubi Dental Clinic and after 5 to 10 minutes, it was called into the clinic room.
As I sat in the dental chair with my headphones on, I shuddered. My orthodontist, Dr Joanne Quah quickly comforted me and assured me that it was going to be a relaxing procedure. However, she was truthful enough to admit that I will experience some discomfort when she tightens the wire.
So first up, I was told to open my mouth wide while Dr Quah placed the plastic piece inside to prevent my mouth from closing.
Carefully and gently, she then began to stick the brackets onto my teeth. True to Dr Quah's word, this process was indeed relaxing in a certain way.
When are the brackets are in placed, she used this funny looking stick that emits some kind of ultra violet ray and hovered it over individual brackets.
I suspect that this machine probably aids to speed ensure that the brackets and glue (or whatever it is) is securely placed on my teeth.
When that's done, she started to put in the metal arc wire and tighten the braces. At this point, there was some slight discomfort, as if someone's tugging at your teeth. But the ache was bearable, and it certainly felt weird to have something foreign in my mouth.
When everything was done, I asked Dr Quah if I needed to have separators, because my friends had them and advised that they were uncomfortable.
Dr Quah mentioned that putting on separators is quite a conventional way, but she doesn't use that method because it causes a lot of discomfort to her patients. So what she did was to stick the last bracket with super strong "glue", which has the same effect. She did warn me that if that very strong bracket drops off, she will then resume the conventional method of putting separators.
I thought it was a pretty good thing, because Dr Quah knows that I'm afraid of pain, and was honest enough to tell me that her current method is considered a "new" method.
So here I am with braces! Braces for the bottom will only be put in a month's time!
All in all, I am very VERY PLEASED with the service and rates that Ubi Dental Clinic provides. The cost of braces is much more reasonable (in fact it is cheaper than National Dental Centre and all the various clinics I've consulted), and their service is superb!
I seriously recommend Ubi Dental Clinic for everyone, especially Dr Joanne Quah!
