Class 2A License

 |

After obtaining my Class 2B Motorcycle license for a year, I was eligible to enroll for my Class 2A Motorcycle license in August this year. The difference? For Class 2B license, I am only allowed to ride any motorcycle not exceeding 200cc, whereas for Class 2A license, I am allowed to ride any motorcycle between 201cc and 400cc.

Simply put, a Class 2A license allows me to ride a bigger bike (in layman terms).

That said, I did not enroll for my Class 2A lesson until 1st October 2010. I could have enrolled in end August (exactly 1 year after my 2B license) but I waited till October because September was a really busy period. I then took about 2 weeks to complete my class 2A courses which comprises of 3 practical lessons, and waited for another 2 weeks to take my compulsory theory lesson.

Honestly, I could have completed my 2A lessons earlier if I didn't have to juggle between work and school. The compulsory theory lesson could not be scheduled earlier because that was the only earliest slot available. Regardless, I quickly booked my TP (Traffic Police) test on the earliest available slot - 30th December 2010 (today) after all my lessons were completed.

30th December 2010 finally arrived sooner than I expected.

06:00am - Finally woke up after 10 minutes of snoozing. I was honestly more tired than nervous. Made a cup of coffee to wake myself up and left the house at 06:30am.

06:55am - Arriving at ComfortDelGro Driving Centre 5 minutes earlier, I found a locker and placed my stuff in it. The wind was chilly and the sky was still dark.

07:20am - The motorcycle instructors from ComfortDelGro Driving Centre signaled us to proceed to the motorcycle shed where the test briefing was held.

07:30am - Once the briefing was over, we were able to have one round of practice before the test commenced. As there were only limited bikes and so many test candidates, we had to queue.

07:50am - There was another briefing regarding the documents we needed to submit for verification. We were then told that we could have a short break before returning to the Motorcycle Shed at 08:25am.

08:25am - We gathered once again in 5 rows to submit our documents (Driving License and IC) to the Traffic Police. After which, we waited until 09:30am where the test finally commenced.

09:30am - The test finally began. As my tag number was 67, I had to wait for quite a while before it was my turn.

10:10am - It was soon my turn and as I dismounted the motorcycle from the main stand, my heart was throbbing. The moment I sat on it, the feeling was all too familiar. I wasn't nervous. I started my test with a deep breath as I enjoyed the gentle, constant breeze. I remembered how the weather was perfect - cloudy and windy, and I was extremely grateful and thankful to God for such a good day.

10:25am - I arrived back to the Motorcycle Shed after completing my test. I thought everything was pretty ok. I was able to go through all the obstacles smoothly. Perhaps I would have clocked a few demerit points for the minor stuff such as 'Incorrect Posture' since I have this bad habit of putting my left hand on the Clutch Lever, or 'Failure To Check Blind Spot". But I thought I should be able to pass.

11:00am - We were told to proceed to Level 3, Classroom 9 for our results. Arriving in the room, I wasn't so worried or nervous. Maybe I just wanted to get it over and done with.

11:20am - After 20 minutes after agonizing wait, the instructors started calling out the tag numbers of those who didn't pass their test, I started shaking with fear. I mean, imagine your tag number is 67 and the numbers that were called out were 60, 63, 70, 71, 72, 73? SCARY!

11:30am - Those who were left in the room were those who passed. I was still a bit worried that the instructors may just open the door and shout out my tag number. So basically, I wasn't going to keep my hopes high until I see the physical test scores myself.

Regardless, the instructors started playing the video for those who passed and after 5 to 10 minutes or so, the instructors started giving out the individual test sheets to us. When I saw my test score - 6, I was pretty surprised yet ELATED! I PASSED! WOOHOO!

After which, I proceeded to the 2nd floor to get the necessary administrative documents done.

..

Now that I've passed my 2A test, I feel as if a huge rock has been lifted off my shoulders! I can finally enjoy myself till the new year begins. Truly, it's a new license for the new year, and probably the best present I give myself for year 2010.
