Kruzer: RES December 2010

 |

R.E.S - an abbreviation for Rest, East, Slack (or can be replaced by shop or shoot - as in photo shoot), is a term that aptly describes the day trips that Kruzers have every alternate month or so.

But ever since dear and I joined Kruzers, we've never really went on a RES trip. Wait a minute, well.. there was one trip where we joined kruzers for a seafood dinner at Kong Kong Seafood Restaurant but I'm quite sure that wasn't a RES trip.

Any how, we were both eager for a ride and some 'feasting', so both dear and I joined Kruzers for their RES trip today.

We were supposed to meet up at 09:00am at GP Esso but because of the jam at Tuas Checkpoint and the Malaysian Checkpoints, we arrived 30 minutes later.

After everyone arrived, we moved off for our first destination for breakfast - Gelang Patah 777.

Since statistics and studies have shown that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, we ordered something more filling than Toasted Bread.

Dear ordered Prawn Mee, which smelled good and looked good but taste a tad blend. I had Wanton Mee, but the wasn't a fan of their noodles since it was clumpy and dry (even after mixing the gravy and adding quite some spoons of soup).

After a heavy breakfast, it was time to hit the roads. As we were not told of the itinerary (because there was none! Ha!), we followed Isaac - the president of Kruzers. So suffice to say, we simply followed wherever his front wheels led us!

Everything was all good until he led us to graveled paths. That was still not too bad. Then, the roads started getting sandier, and before I knew it.. we were going OFF-ROAD! Ha!

We soon arrived at NANAS - Noah's Ark Natural Animal Sanctuary. It's an animal shelter for stray animals, and gosh, I was really sadden by the condition of the stray animals. Sigh.

We then moved on to our next unknown destination, which comprises of more muddy and sandy trails.

We finally arrived at a small fishing jetty after 15 to 20 minutes later. Though it was small and a little rundown, the scenery was very tranquil and serene.

I was reminded of the importance of contentment as a quality in determining one's quality of life when I saw the local folks fishing in their fishing boats.

Leaving the jetty, we continued on our journey to nowhere, which had that element of surprise of not knowing what's next.

But true to the word 'surprise', we were led to a path that was not only muddy, slippery, but soft! To add to the 'surprise' and danger, both sides of the path was filled with overgrown bushes and shrubs and after that, a river / a swamp.

As such, the four riders braved the 'sticky' situation and continued on that path. I'm sure most of us were holding our breaths and crossing our fingers until we arrived cleared this trail. PHEW!

Thankfully, the muddy and slippery off-road path was short and we soon arrived at a bridge. Here, we chatted a while and caught our breaths before heading for lunch.

It was long before we arrived at our lunch destination - Aliff Restaurant. Dear wasn't hungry, so he didn't order anything. I ordered - Maggie Goreng Ayam and the rest ordered theirs separately.

Though we ordered at the same time, mine was the last to arrive. For someone who is impatient and hungry, I was becoming grumpier and grumpier by the minute.

When my food finally arrived, I was upset that the food wasn't cooked properly. The maggie noodles were still hard and clumpy. So Isaac sent it back and asked for a new plate of Maggie Goreng Ayam.

When the second plate arrived, it was still the same! Gee, I was so turned off that I tried my best to eat as much as possible before giving the remainders to dear, who didn't mind the uncooked noodles.

When lunch was done, we decided to have a Bike Wash first before heading back to Singapore. Isaac then led us to a bike wash in Gelang Patah (RM 8.00). With all the dirt, sand, and grime off dear's bike, he was sure to be a happy man!

At about 4 plus, we finally headed home. True to its name - RES, we kruzers definitely had a fun riding through different road terrains. We also ate our meals and chilled out a great deal at the jetty, the bridge, and our lunch venue.

Truly, it was a nice way of enjoying a lazy Saturday afternoon and both dear and I are definitely in for the next RES trip!
