Well I'm not sure how true this saying is, but it is a known fact that Cantonese people like soup. In fact, the culture of drinking soup is so deeply rooted in the lives of the Cantonese, that it becomes an indispensable part of their dining table.
So I guess that explains the presence of a big bowl of soup at the dining table, regardless of how big or small the family gathering is.
But unless someone in the family boils that pot of soup, soup lovers like me experience a problem of not being able to find good quality soup at affordable prices.
Which is why when I finally find a shop that sells good, thick, and tasty cantonese soup, I just want to shout out in glee, and tell everyone of this die-die-must-try soup stall.

There are 4 coffeeshops in total. But fret not! When facing the block of flats, count the 2nd coffeeshop from your left, and look for the soup stall. If you see their huge ass cauldrons, it means that you are at the right place.
Because I patronized their stall at night, the popular soup menus like their Herbal Chicken was completely sold out. So I settled for their classic Old Cucumber Soup with rice.
When my orders were served, I was stunned! For $4.50, I'd expect a small ceramic bowl of soup with white rice. But hey ho! The lady served me a small CAULDRON of soup, with a small bowl of mushroom and shrimp rice.
All these for $4.50?! Yes I kid you not!
But of course, the prices differ accordingly. For the more premium soups like herbal chicken or duck, the price is ranged from $5 onwards to $6.80. Still, it is very affordable for such a HUGE PORTION OF SOUP!
Anyway, my eyes lit up when I took my first sip. Though I thought it could be slightly 'thicker' in taste, it was still as tasty and delicious!
As for the rice, it was fragrant and the taste was not too overpowering. This, combined with the soup, was an excellent combination of flavors and taste.
But special mention has to go to the meat in the soup! Although it is ordinary pork, it isn't tough and hard like the ones I've had elsewhere. Instead, the pork meat was so soft and succulent! Usually I wouldn't eat pork fat, but this time round, the pork fat was so soft that it MELTED IN MY MOUTH!
Apart from our soups and rice, my friend ordered another place of Kang Kong to share. Oh gosh the Kang Kong is another dish that caught me by surprise!
Normally, Kang Kong would be quite spicy, and can sometimes overwhelm our tastebuds. But this Kang Kong is different. It is hardly spicy, and the vegetables are so soft! In fact, I'd dare say that this is the best Kang Kong I've ever tried!
So if you are a soup lover and a foodie who's working around Sin Ming / Upper Thomason Road, you can drop by this shop for your daily dose of soup.
