17 Feb 2010: Mersing

 |

If you've read my previous birthday post carefully, you'll notice that I didn't mention anything about the presents that I've received.

Well truthfully, there were none; not even from dear because he has a little hole in his pocket. Fortunately, I was understanding and didn't demand anything either. Mom did however, buy me something recently. As usual, it was something fluffy, huggable, and soft. Go figure.

So anyway, since our company was generous to give us off for the whole week Chinese New Year, dear decided to ride up to our neighboring country for a short getaway, and use this as a combined Birthday and Valentine's Day present as well.

With all excitement and anticipation, we began to plan our trip on the week before Chinese New Year. Since I wasn't so interested in a long trip, I suggested Mersing. Anyway other than Desaru, we've never really been to the East of Malaysia.

On 17th February, I rode to meet dear at his place, and we set off at 11:00AM. Usually for trips, I'll always insist on being a pillion because I like to take photos on the go, and well, I'd rather sit back, relax and enjoy the journey instead of exerting all my energy on riding to places.

We decided to stop by Desaru for lunch before heading to Mersing.

With dear's GPS, navigation was a piece of cake and we were soon able to find out the various food locations for lunch. After much deliberation, we decided to try out Marrybrown. Anyway, it was a hot day and the thought of eating in an air conditioned place was really enticing.

After lunch, we continued our journey to Mersing. Interestingly, the trunk road that we took had a good sea view and we decided to stop by the beach to have a look.

As you can see above, we truly enjoyed every bit of the sea view, the wind, the weather, and the sand.

At about 5:00PM, we finally reached our destination in Mersing – Hotel Havanita. At first sight, I was honestly quite disappointed with the outlook. It was a stark difference from the images in their website.

Fortunately, their rooms looked exactly like the pictures in their website, which was good. It's modernized looking, cosy, comfortable, and really well maintained for a 3 Star Hotel. Rates were RM 150.00 per room per night.

At night, we decided to head out to their local town to explore the area and have dinner as well. As the town was about 10 to 15 minutes walk from the hotel, we decided to go on foot.

We finally settled on Mersing Seafood Restaurant, after looking at various eateries. I realized that both dear and I are biased towards air conditioned places. Hmmm..

Anyhow, dear and I were famished, so we ordered Sliced Fish Soup for our appetizers. RM 8.00 per bowl.

Next up was Vegetables with Oyster Sauce, which was priced at RM 8.00. Dear really love this.

Sweet & Sour Pork was the third dish, and was priced at RM 8.00 too. Pretty average tasting, in my opinion.

Last of all was Hot Plate Bean Curd With Egg. It was our favorite dish, and for such a big portion, it was RM 8.00 too!

Total bill added up to RM 34.00. Quite value for money I must say!

And like what happens after every sumptuous meal, dear and I headed back to the hotel to rest.
