With A Pinch Of Salt

 |

Being the more spontaneous one in the relationship, I usually like to research on new places to dine, and then suggest to dear. And if he is agreeable (which he mostly does), he will bring us there.

Today was one such example. I've heard of the cafe: With A Pinch Of Salt, but didn't have the opportunity to give that a try because it is in a pretty obscure location. But since dear and I were in that vicinity, we decided to pop by for dinner.

I like how the whole place exuberates of the sweet and fun kind of cosiness because of their baby blue walls and cute ornaments and arty lamps suspended from the ceiling. Really cute!

Regardless, dear and I began to order our Main Courses and decided to top it up for the Set Meal ($3.50) that consists of a free drink, free soup (or salad) of the day, and free dessert.

So today's soup of the day is Cream of Corn, which tastes quite authentic and home-made. It isn't too creamy as well, which I personally prefer.

It didn't take long before dear's main course arrived. He ordered Old Uncle Mac's Favorite ($16.90), which consists of a combo of Steak, Lamb Chop, Chicken, Chipolatas, Bacon, Ham, Potato Wedge, Topped with a Sunny Side Up.

Dear let me try a small piece of each and I really like how everything taste pleasantly nice. The steak fillet wasn't too tough, and the lamb chop was soft and tender, the chicken and fish tasted normal though. If you'd ask, I would say that this would be suitable for those with a bigger appetite.

Since I had my braces on, I couldn't chew on hard foods and so I decided to order Mrs Dory Sambal ($9.90), which is essentially pan-seared dory fish cooked with their homemade sambal sauce.

Though thehe sambal chilli wasn't as spicy as I thought, it was a tad salty after spamming my dory fish with sambal chilli.

For dear's dessert, he had a scoop of Chocolate Ice-Cream which was part of the Set Meal. I however, wanted something more satisfying so I ordered their Choco Lava ($4.90) - which is a volcano filled with melted chocolate with vanilla ice-cream.

GOSH THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST DESSERT I'VE EVER HAD! The explosion of tastes between the hot chocolate sponge and the sweet cold vanilla ice-cream is really phenomenal! Absolutely two thumbs up from me!

After a sumptuous and absolutely satiating dinner, we headed to their counter to foot the bill. However, they forgot to include the Choco Lava in the receipt and when we told them about the omission, the counter staff said that IT IS ON THE HOUSE because they were too busy to amend the bill!

This left dear and I grinning as we thanked the cashier guy profusely. All in all, we certainly had a pleasant experience and will definitely recommend our friends here in the future. After all, the price of their food is affordable and the portions are reasonable. So what's there to not like?
