Kruzer: Masters & Maids

 |

Usually on Friday, dear and I will join Kruzer for their weekly Friday night runs to satisfy the hunger of both humans and bikes.

This week was no exception. We were led by Isaac to a new cafe - Welcome Home Maid Cafe - which I shuddered upon glancing at their huge signboard.

You see I'm not a fan of Pink. More accurately, I HATE PINK. Somehow, pink reminds me of unicorns, fluffy pillows, lace, overly-girly stuff. You get what I mean.

Furthermore, their waitresses were dressed in French Maid Uniform which made it even more awkward because they reminded me of some cosplay uniform and mind you, I'm not one with such fetish and liking.

But well, we settled down quickly and ordered our food - which brings me to another point which I gripe about. Their menus are so confusing! A simple Chicken Chop can take on several customizations i.e. choosing between a wide range of sauces, choosing whether you want fries or rice etc.

And lastly, their poor command of english made it hard for our non-chinese friends to order. We had to translate several times, point at many pictures, before the waitress understood our orders.

About 15 minutes later, our food arrived. Dear ordered the Chicken Chop with Fries and Mayonnaise sauce while I ordered Hor Fun.

Despite my rantings earlier about their color theme and awkward French Maid uniforms, I must say that the food wasn't too bad!

I've tried a little bit of the Chicken Chop to know that it wasn't as bad as those Western Food Stalls that over-fry them and making it HARD. Fries were also tasty and well-seasoned with salt.

My Hor Fun was a pleasant surprise too. Well, it wasn't that fantastic, but definitely a notch better than the average Hor Fun. Ingredients were very generous, and the portion seems big. That's probably because of the big plate.

So if you'd to ask, I'll say that Welcome Home Maid Cafe brings a bitter-sweet, yet awkward experience. But since I'm more of an ambiance person, I'd rather go to somewhere where paint colors are less jarring to the eyes, and where it's quieter and less rowdy for conversations to take place.

That said, seems like my preference still lie with Crystal Pearl Cafe (awesome Chinese soup) and Monsta Cafe (balanced variety of food with good Baristas)!
