Thursday @ The Tavern

Had a little gathering with some friends at The Tavern, which is located at the Tanglin Club.

Entering into the restaurant, I was quite drawn into the British / English vintage decor, which gave a relaxing and cosy ambience. Felt as though I was in a different place, and in a different time.

For starters, I ordered their Cream of Mushroom Soup, which tasted pretty ok. I thought that the flavor could be a little richer.

Dear ordered this Onion Soup thingy which really irked me off since I am not a fan of onions. Well, a little onions is ok for me, but this soup tasted as though it was prepared with an several onions, which really threw me off when I first tasted it.

For my main course, I ordered Codfish, which both dear and our friend said is nice. But to me, it had that slight tinge of "muddy" taste and I didn't really like the sauce, which I can't really put a finger to what it taste like.

Dear had steak, and ordered the Ladies Cut portion because he had a late lunch. But the portion turns out to be pretty big for a Ladies Cut. Steak was chunky and tasted above average. But if you have to ask which taste better - Lawry's or this - I'd say Lawry's.

For dessert, we all shared this interesting Cherry thingy (I'm really bad with dish names!) which had cherries, cherry ice cream, waffle, and some raisins. I like how it tasted like a mix of sweet and sour, and the ice-cream really went well with the sauce.

Dear also had a scoop of Ben & Jerry's "Coffee Buzz" which tasted chocolatey and mocha-ish at the same time.

To sum things up, I wouldn't mind coming back here to try other dishes on their menu. After all, their price range is surprisingly reasonable, or in fact a tad lower for the portions that they are serving.
