Phuket Trip 2012 (Day 1)

 |

Hmm.. Phuket. Land of clean beaches, clear blue seas, poetic sunsets, and vibrant night life. For most, Phuket is a popular tourist destination because of the aforementioned reasons. But for the BF and I, it is even more meaningful because of our epic ride from Singapore to Thailand via motorcycles in May 2010.

Which is why I wanted to go back to Phuket this year. Because memories of the activities done in the previous Phuket trip such as White Water Rafting, Island Touring, ATV.. remains vivid in my mind. In addition, I wanted to celebrate my Birthday and Valentine's day in a foreign land, and it was just so coincidental that AirAsia was having a promotion for their Phuket flights, so I thought "Hey! That's just awesome!"

Believe it or not, it is the first time that I'm travelling with the BF by plane. Personally, I haven't flown on a plane for a long time, so I'm a bit blur with the check-in procedures. So, I left it to dear to settle our stuff.

As we arrived earlier than our friends, we decided to wait for them at Ruyi, where we had a simple breakfast.

When our friends arrived and checked-in, we headed to Terminal 3's DBS treasures lounge where we got to enjoy good service and nice food.

My early lunch before boarding our flight

After a palatable lunch and several trips to their oh-so-fragrant-and-luxurious toilets, we took the Skytrain back to Terminal 1.

Waiting to board the plane

Finally, we were told that we could board the plane. Can't describe the excitement that's building in me!

Our flight from Singapore to Phuket takes about 1 hour and 45 mins; more than enough time to catch a short nap, watch a few episodes of How I Met Your Mother on the iPad, and fill up the Thailand Immigration Cards.

Approaching the coast of Phuket. Ready or not, here we come!

After queuing for about an hour to clear immigrations, and suppressing a bad episode of motion sickness because of a reckless taxi driver, we finally arrived at our hotel - Metadee Resort & Villas.

PS: That's the BF, recuperating from terrible motion sickness and body cramps.

With woody floors, rattan furniture and a cute bamboo laundry ladder, I love how this resort is slightly rustic but yet simplistic and contemporary. Further more, it has got free WIFI, a complimentary bowl of fruits everyday, and other frivolous stuff like slippers (no, not bedroom slippers) which I'm amazed how they managed to get our sizes, a recycled bag with 2 pool towels neatly rolled in it etc.

I then headed out to the balcony to snap a shot of the view, which reminds me of a tropical garden setting surrounded by a giant free-form swimming pool.

Needless to say, we spent the next hour swimming, followed by a short tea-break with french fries and cocktails. Ahhhh... this is what I call relaxation!

Soon, it was time for dinner so we headed out in search for an eatery that serves loval food. In between, we saw some cute little buses / minivans which was actually converted into small stalls. Interesting!

Our dinner venue

From left to right: Tom Yam Koong, Glass Noodles with Baked Prawns, another spicier bowl of Tom Yam Koong, Glass Noodles with Chicken.

Sounds good? You bet. It taste good as well!

For post dinner activities, we headed to the streets of Kata to shop and look for some supplies.

While shopping, we passed by a few Soap Stalls which sold intricate and brightly colored soaps. I was tempted to buy a few of these as souvenirs, but strangely, I didn't.

Regardless, we saw many other interesting sights like "Elvis Presley", who was performing at an eatery cum pub.

We also saw "Dumbo" the elephant at another local bar, which seems to attract quite a handful of kids.

In between our long walks, we stopped by a few fruits stall for coconut juice. With the hot and humid climate, along with the spicy food we've been taking, a 'cooling' drink is much needed.

Before heading back to our hotel, we decided to pamper ourselves with (what I personally feel was) a rewarding massage. I mean seriously - a 1.5 hour of Head, Back & Shoulder massage for THB350, I think it's totally worth it!

Furthermore, it's very rare for me to find a masseuse who can make me fall asleep in a middle of a massage session, because I'm really ticklish!

Unfortunately, dear didn't enjoy it as much as I did. He said that his masseuse was massaging his shoulders and was causing a lot of discomfort, or even pain. Poor thing.

Well apart from the horrible episode of motion sickness, body cramps, and painful shoulder massage, I think he did enjoy himself. Maybe not as much as I did, but enough to make him fall asleep almost immediately when we arrived back to our hotel.
