Anniversary At Lawry's

 |

1st December has always been a special day for dear and I, simply because it's is our anniversary. On this significant day, we'll usually celebrate over a combination of the following: a dinner, a movie, a stroll in the park etc.

This year however, we were unable to have our anniversary dinner on the actual day itself due to church commitments. Hence, we decided to have it a day earlier - 30th November.

As I'm the one who always decides on the dinner or lunch venues, I chose Lawry's, The Prime Ribs because I know that dear's a steak person, and I know that Lawry's has one of the tastiest steaks so far. Furthermore, I've never tried their steaks before even though I've been to Lawry's once about two years ago. Even more coincidentally, I had a 1-to-1 voucher which was given when I signed up for the POSB Everyday Card.

So I made a reservation for Tuesday, 30th November at 7:00PM

When the day finally arrived, the heavy rain was a big bummer, and I had to change our reservations to 7:30PM instead.

At 7:00 however, it was still raining and we decided to leave the office for Lawry's in fear that we might not be able to make it on time. By the time we reached our destination, it was 7:45pm! Well, better late than never right?

Arriving at Lawry's, we were quickly shown our seats and given the menu to place our orders. I was however, distracted by the decor of the restaurant. Warm orangey lights, victorian furniture, bronze chandeliers - everything just felt so classy and elegant!

Shortly after we've ordered our main courses and starters, we were served with bread. Gosh, even the bread tasted different in Lawry's. As usual, I avoided the butter due to my lactose intolerance.

After which, we were served with their 'Famous Spinning Bowl Salad' because it came with our Main Course. Now dear and I are not salad fans. We do not eat salads. We avoid salad bars at buffet dinners.

But since we paid quite a sum for our Main Course which inevitably included a salad, we decided to give it a try. Surprisingly, dear enjoyed his salad thoroughly, which was a good thing (phew)!

As for me, I thought that the salad tasted kinda refreshing even with the dressing (I'd usually avoid any liquid that resembles milk i.e. mayonnaise, whip-cream, butter, margarine etc). But don't take my word for it because it's the first time I've tried a salad. However, I couldn't finish my portion due to the inability to chew on the big lettuce pieces because of my braces.

I gave mine to dear and he ate them like a happy herbivorous dinosaur.

Apart from our Main Course, we also ordered Cream of Mushroom soup for our starters. The quality of the soup was very authentic and tangy, and reminded me of the Mushroom Soup I had at SCOTTS on Frasers's Hill which I enjoyed very much.

Finally, our Main Courses was served. We ordered The Lawry's Cut which was traditional and most popular cut. Dear liked his Medium and I liked mine Medium Rare.

At first sight, I was filled with regret when I glanced at my pinkish bloody Medium Rare steak. But after putting a slice of that meat into my mouth, it was like.. HEAVEN! Gosh it was tasty, juicy and consistently well marinated especially in the fatty parts.

Unfortunately, I didn't quite fancy the Mash Potato as it was a tad too salty for me. So after eating half of the Mash Potatoes, I gave up in surrender. Our Main Course also came with the Yorkshire Pudding, which was baked in small skillets until puffy and golden brown. PERFECT! Tasted so eggy and crispy at the edges.

All in all, it was a very pleasant experience for both of us. In fact, it was the first time dear stepped foot in Lawry's, and it was the first time both of us dined in such an extravagant restaurant. As such, we left with big grins on our faces and big tummies from the sumptuous dinner.

We then headed to Starbucks at Paragon Shopping Centre to chill out and to claim our complimentary caffe latte from Standard Chartered.

With a delicious dinner followed by a warm cuppa to end our date, it was certainly one of the best anniversaries we've had.
