White Dog Cafe & Fruit Paradise

 |

It's been about 3 years since I last patronized White Dog Cafe. Having that said, nothing much seemed to have changed, other than the increase in popularity as observed by the large crowd of diners.

Regardless, we quickly ordered our food after some light chatter. While waiting for our dinner to be served, our friend mentioned that the beers are quite affordable, as they were priced at only $5.50 for a pint!

With a big crowd of patrons, I thought that we'd have to wait a while before dinner is served. I was wrong. Within 10 minutes or so, my Pacific Dory arrived on my table.

Priced between $11 to $12, I honestly thought that the Dory was very value for money because of its large portion and its soft and tasty fish meat. However, the more I ate, the more I felt that the sauce was a tad overpowering, as if the whole dory was soaked in barbecue sauce.

Dear's Fish & Chips, which drew much attention because of its huge portion, arrived a few minutes later. After a few bites, he commented that the fish meat tasted bland, and seems to fall apart easily.

All in all, the experience in White Dog Cafe gave me the same vibe as Cafe Cartel: Quick and Casual Food , served in a modern and simplistic cafe.

Frankly, the only reason why I'd probably return is the the cheap booze, and probably because I'd like to try the dish that my friends had - Beef Burger - I think. Otherwise, the loud and noisy "ambience" from their crowd of patrons made my dinner experience a little turnoff.

...

Later that night, our friends and I decided to have satisfy our dessert cravings at Fruit Paradise.

Being my first time here, I was quickly drawn towards the bright colors of their fruits tarts on display:

Flipping the menu back and forth, it took me a long while to decide on what to order because everything looks so tantalizing and delectable!

I finally decided on the Chocolate Banana, since I'm such an ardent fan of chocolate and that yellow fruit. However, I was afraid that I wouldn't like it because I HATE CREAM. And oh, look! There's lots of cream in the tart!

But despite my fear of cream, I decided to give this fruity pastry a try, and I must say that I can't taste the cream.. at all! Unfortunately, I didn't quite enjoy the hard crust. Perhaps if they could change the cream to ice-cream, and the hard crust to something that's similar to a warm apple crumble, then it would have been perfect!

Otherwise, I'm sorry but I'd rather have a cheaper alternative at home: Bananas and (King's) chocolate ice cream, probably with waffles or some other toppings, which I'm quite sure would amount to less than $6.80.
