Phuket Trip 2012 (Day 2)

 |

The next morning, we had a sumptuous breakfast at the hotel's restaurant before leaving for Phi Phi Island. From omelettes, sausages, bacon, to even Asia delights, we stuffed ourselves with proteins and carbohydrates in preparation for today's island hopping.

Christine & Weston, our lovely travel mates

Arriving at Chalong Bay, one of the lads from the agency told us to wait for our guide at a holding area.

About half an hour later, our guide came to give us a short briefing before leading us to board the boats.

Taking the shuttlebus to the docks

Since our group was quite large, some of them had to sit in the front of the boat. Well, most of us hid at the back because we were afraid to get wet or brave the choppy seas.

After an hour or so, we finally saw some islands in sight. First stop - Phi Phi island, maya beach.

Known for its soft sands and clear blue waters, Maya beach is a popular tourist attraction in Phuket. Hence, the swarm of "beach babes and hunks" are seen in the above picture.

Maya bay, here we come!

Instead of hanging by the crowded beach of Maya Bay, we decided to explore the other side of the island - Lo Sa Ma Bay. Fret not! When I mean explore,  I actually mean a five minutes walk from Maya Bay to the Lo Sa Ma Bay.

Climbing up the old and creaky staircase to the view point on Lo Sa Ma Bay.

Ahh.. Check out the sparkling turquoise blue seas, clear skies, and an endless horizon. Spectacular, isn't it?

45 minutes later, we boarded our boats and was brought to the Viking Caves that is located at another island for a look-see.

Before arriving at our lunch location, our guide wanted to bring us to another island to snorkel.

However, it would be time consuming because the travel time would take about half an hour, followed by 45 minutes of snorkeling, and another half an hour to come back to our lunch venue.

By then, it would have been 2 to 3pm, and the guide would probably be facing a very hungry and angry mob of tourists.

So, the guide decided that we should have lunch first before commencing our snorkel session.

(Regretfully, my waterproof camera case failed me so I didn't take any pictures of our snorkel.)

Thereafter, we were brought to our final destination; a small island with clear waters and soft beaches just like Maya Bay, except with lesser tourists.

Since the guide gave us a long time period to loiter on this island, most had another session of snorkeling, while others lie on their beach chairs for a tan.

The BF however, was smart enough to hide out in the shade and take a nap. Very wise indeed.

At about 5:30pm, we arrived back at our hotels. Having spent the whole day exposed to the sun, sand, and sea, a long shower is much needed.

At about 6:15pm or so, we headed out in search for some grilled dinner in celebration of my belated birthday, and our dear friends' anniversary.

While walking to our dinner venue, we stopped by a little travel & tour agency where we managed to book our tickets for the famous Simon Cabaret show.

Heading back to the streets, we continued our way until we reach our dinner destination - Dino Bar. Doesn't it look like a bar from the stone age? Perhaps Fred Flintstone would fancy this place.

Inside, the decorations were interestingly matching to the stone-age theme of the restaurant and bar. Look! A dinosaur fossil!

The waitress then led us to their outdoor area to be seated. Apart from the occasional mozzies and humidity, having our meals outdoors in this garden lookalike setting with stone chairs and table really feels as though I'm in Jurassic Park. Ha ha!

As with all celebratory dinners, we ordered a lot of food. And when I mean a lot, I mean a huge basket of seafood, main dishes for each individual, and a communal dish of even more seafood.

But hey ho, no matter how glutted we are with dinner, there is always room for dessert and a cup of Mocha Frappucino.

With our hungers satiated, we gallivanted the streets of Kata Beach in search of car rental shops for our adventure tomorrow. Fortunately, we managed to rent one at an affordable rate of THB1500.

By then, it was approaching 11+pm and our eyelids were getting heavy from surviving a long and tiring day. So, we proceeded back to our hotel for a good night's rest.
