Double Twos

 |

Today, I turn twenty two. Yes, my age isn't a secret; at least it doesn't have to be yet.

So I woke up earlier than usual, feeling a little joy bubbling within. Well, that's because yesterday, I've already started receiving lots of birthday wishes, and dear also spammed me with emails, facebook messages, and text messages at exactly 12:00AM.

But despite the birthday happiness, I knew that the world will continue to spin, work will probably pile up, and life will surely go on. Still, the thought of knowing that I was born on this very day made me smile.

As usual, I went to work and wasn't expectant or hopeful for anything extraordinary. Dear was on a callout and wasn't in the office, so I was pretty much alone. That's ok, I was still joyful.

When he came back to the office. He scurried to the pantry. I wasn't thinking of anything, or hoping that anything would happen. I continued with work.

After lunch, I resumed my work dear was in the pantry; I assumed that he was taking his usual can of root bear out of the fridge.

Little did I know that when he walked out of the pantry, he held a plate in his hands with 2 muffins and a picture that looked strangely familiar.

He began to sing "Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to dear grace.. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU.." as he approached my table slowly.

I was stumped, but extremely elated! It was unexpected, simple, yet so incredibly sweeet of him to do so. I must applaud his efforts!

Anyhow, work came to end and I had to go to school. By then, the birthday joy was wearing out. I was struck with fatigue as well.

Nonetheless, dear continued to celebrate my birthday even after school by suggesting to go to Changi Airport for Swensen's Ice Cream. I immediately replied "yes!"

By the time we arrived, it was 10 plus going on 11PM. After which, we took a sky train to Terminal 2 for Swensen's (open 24 hours).

We ordered the Gold Rush, consisting of Chocolate and Coffee Ice Cream dipped in Butterscotch, Fudge, and Almonds. As usual, it tasted delightful!

At about 12:30AM, we finally headed home.

..

Though it was a really simple celebration, I do want to thank dear for making this day really enjoyable and meaningful for me in every way. He knew that I will be feeling lousy because of school in the evenings. Nonetheless, his little actions and effort made me feel special and loved.

I am so loving this man.
