Today, I turn 23!
Usually on this special day, I'd like to spend the whole day with dear doing something fun and spontaneous, like how we went on a Road Trip to Mersing and another unexpected on to Kuantan last year. But that is not possible this year because he has to work, and it isn't fun for me to take leave and just laze around at home doing nothing.
So I decided that perhaps, a simple birthday dinner would suffice. Dear was agreeable to my suggestion and asked where would I like to have dinner. Unsure of any restaurants that has good ambience, good food, near the city but somewhere quiet, I started to check out on some of the recommendations from our local food bloggers.
Fortunately, I found Prive Restaurant from Lady Iron Chef's blog and I thought that hey! This place is exactly what I was looking for!

So after checking with dear (who I thank God shares the same ambience concept as I do), I quickly made reservations for 10th February at 7:30pm.
5 minutes after we've placed our order, the waitress brought out a basket of assorted bread, which was perfect since dear was starving. However, the bread wasn't the usual french baguette that was served. Some of the bread were sweet, some were salty; but each of it was tasty and fresh.
Dear's starter - Tasmanian Ocean Trout Tartare ($18.00), with Avruga Caviar, Quail Egg & Pickled Japanese Cucumber arrived shortly after my Starter was served.
About 15 minutes later, dear's main dish - Ribeye Steak USDA Prime Angus 12oz/340gm ($68.00) arrived. You should have seen the look on his face when he had his first bite. He went all "It's fantastic.. Look how clean the meat is .. It's a good slab of steak" etc.
My main course - Pan Roasted White Cod ($32.00) with Haricot Verts, Virgin Cherry Tomatoes, Almond Flakes & Herbs Beurre Blanc was served immediately after.
After a sumptuous meal, the waitress then walked up to me with a slice of complimentary birthday cake and chocolate wordings that wrote "Happy Birthday". Awesome!
Before I cut the cake and blow the candles, the waitress was nice enough to take a picture for us first. How sweet. Dear then sang Happy Birthday quietly and I blew the candles there after.
With so much food, we chatted a while first before getting the bill. Then, we made our way outside and was welcomed by the lighted greenery of Prive Waterfront Bar. It is essentially an outdoor setting, where people can seat on comfy sofa chairs and enjoy the breeze while having some booze or other chilled beverages. Dear and I thought that it is a nice place to bring our friends to hangout next time.
As the night was young, we continued our stroll around Keppel Island. It was then that we realized how small Keppel Island is. With the backdrop of the lighted city across the horizon, perfect weather while holding the hand of a loved one, the night was simply perfect. It was exactly how I wanted my birthday to be spent. I was very contented, happy, and satisfied. I really couldn't ask for more.
Arriving at 7:10pm, we were able to catch a glimpse of the beautiful sunset on the docks in Keppel Bay Marina before heading to the restaurant for our reservations at 7:30pm. The whole sky was lit with hues of purple and orange, there was a gentle constant breeze, the air smelt salty yet fresh - it was a perfect day for a joyous occasion!
After which, we walked towards Prive Restaurant and upon arrival, I was pretty surprised to see that there were only 2 tables that were seated with people. Immediately, I thought of the worse case scenario where the food in Prive was so bad that people don't come here at all. But since we were already there, I thought - to heck with all these assumption and silly thoughts!
So we quickly got seated and ordered our food because dear was famished. Dear then turned to me and told me how he loves the decor and ambience of Prive. I agreed with him without a doubt. Truly, Prive is exactly the kind of restaurant that we both fancy - Dim with warm lightings and a modern look. Even the songs that they played was what we like - Bossa Nova and Jazz! What I especially love is how we get to have the view of the docks even from the inside of the restaurant!

Minutes later, my Starter - Willow Mushrooms ($15.00), with Truffle Poached Egg, Parma Ham & Shaved Aged Parmesan Cheese was served. In my honest opinion, it actually has a very acquired and tangy taste, which I unfortunately do not know how to appreciate fully. But I still ate most of it before passing it over to to my hungry boyfriend.

He who is a fan of sashimi loved this dish almost instantaneously. I had a try and despite me being a anti-raw-food person, I thought that it tasted pretty fresh and refreshing when compared to my Willow Mushrooms. I didn't get to try the caviar though. What a shame.

Well he is right in some way. Their beef reminded me of our experience at Lawry's. But we decided that Lawry's still topped the charts for us. This Ribeye steak at Prive however, was pretty good too! Further more, it's a little cheaper than Lawry's, which works out to be proportionate between quality and cost.
My main course - Pan Roasted White Cod ($32.00) with Haricot Verts, Virgin Cherry Tomatoes, Almond Flakes & Herbs Beurre Blanc was served immediately after.
I was actually very astonished at how SOFT their cod was. I mean usually, fish meat is already soft and tender. But their cod fish was even softer than that! The moment I prod it with my fork, the the fish meat shook like jelly and slid right down into my fork.
As for their sauce, it was creamy and unique (you really have got to try it yourself) and was a perfect complement to the soft, white, cod fish.
Ps: Except for their Ribeye Steak, their food is pretty much like fine dining style, which is served in small portions.

Ps: They do serve complimentary cake during your birthdays, but please inform them that you are celebrating a birthday (either yours or your partner or friend) when making reservations so that they can prepare the cake. I didn't inform them and I was really thankful that they had some cake in house.

We then took a slow walk along the docks and that's where we noticed that Keppel Bridge lighted up with a spectrum of colors. Simply beautiful!
Standing there and gazing at the fireworks in the sky, I smiled at myself and wished myself a Happy Birthday. I honestly wouldn't mind celebrating my next birthday in the same manner. But for now, today's celebration was good. I was happy. Very happy.
