Crocs Prima Shoes

Being a cheapskate, I have been wearing this particular pair of jelly netted shoes for quite a while because it is soft and comfortable. Most importantly, it is $7.90 which is really cheap!

But of course cheap stuff don't last long. Within a few months, the plastic started tearing apart and soon, I had to compromise with a spare footwear until I get a replacement.

So I thought it would be ok if I got back the same shoe since it is comfortable and I really like it very much.

But my logical thinking overthrew this silly thought because if I had purchased the same kind of netted jelly shoe, it would be spoilt soon.

Then I thought about the different kinds of shoes I could have gotten. Suddenly, my mind flashed a pair of Mary Jane Crocs and viola! I felt that it was a good choice since Crocs Shoes are pretty lasting and the design I chose was similar to the previous netted jelly shoe.

To cut the long story short, I got my Crocs Prima Shoes for $43+ after a 10% discount at Royal Sporting House.

So far it has been good, just that I might need some getting used to. That explains the blisters I corn growing on my toes I think.

..

Hmm since there are 5 holes on each shoe, I was thinking of putting Crocs Accessories such as mini alphabets like: G-R-A-C-E and L-E-O-N-G on each croc shoes respectively. What do you think? :)

An Early Surprise

Lately, I have been wanting to purchase a new camera - a Panasonic DMC LX3 for myself after being recommended by a friend.

I searched online for its reviews and price but since the cost of it was a major factor, I shook off the impulse to buy it with my savings.

I thought that I could use some of my Ang Pao money to defray the cost, and banged on the hope that I could ask my friends to chip into the "A New Camera For Grace's 21st Birthday" fund instead of giving me presents like every other year.

But before I could even think of putting into use my Ang Pow money and putting into action the Birthday Fund plan, DEAR SURPRISED ME BY GETTING IT YESTERDAY!

You should have seen the look on my face when he came to pick me up with his dad's car! :D

I was screaming and squealing with delight and what seems like a high pitched voice, I grinned from ear to ear, I swear my ears went hot red with excitement, my eyes bulged out with shock, my hands shaking with anticipation as I opened the box, my heart leaped like 200 times a minute and I was just over the moon!

In my heart I was leaping with joy and I kept grinning at the camera, then at him, then at the camera, then at him. Back and forth.

After all the excitement and joy, a sense of guilt oozed into my conscience and I gave him a hug to thank him, at the same time to offer to pay half the cost of this costly present.

He rejected but shortly after, he asked in a quiet sheepish voice, "Do I still need to do something big for your birthday?"

I looked at him, then at the camera, and I smiled "No dear, on that day we can just stay home and bake cookies and a home made cake."

On day 3 of Chinese New Year, Uncle Thomas house was open for visitation so dear, I and some of the church members went to his place for dinner and visitation.

P/s: Photos taken with my new Panasonic LX3 :)

Test shot of us. Love the background and the detail :D
Did I mention that Uncle Thomas did this all by himself? Way to go!

Sumptuous spread of dinner. Like how the singaporeans call it "Shiok ah!"

Ha ha his place was getting crowder by the minute!
Pastor Alfred and Pastor Joyce came.
Here's everyone who were present! What a crowd!

CNY 2009 Day Two

On the second day of Chinese New Year, it would be normally be the busiest day for dear and I. That's because we have so many places to go with so little time. So unless we stick to a really tight schedule, we wouldn't be able to complete our visitation as planned.

First up, we headed down to Wilfred's place to do some catching up!
Then Weston's place where it was crowded with youths and some of Weston and Christine's friends or colleagues.

Weston and Christine's little garden in their balcony
Then dear and I together with his family, went over to his nanny's place where we had a sumptuous spread of dinner prepared for us.

Dear and I then left for Pastor's place where he invited the youths over for dinner. Great fellowship and food!

Last stop was at my grandmother's place together with my aunties (Mom's side) and by then, we were both exhausted!

What a busy Chinese New Year we had this year! Well, no pain, no gain! :)

CNY 2009 Day One

Each year on the first day of Chinese New Year, my family will always visit the relatives on my dad's side.

Well dad's side have many extended relatives, so my poor brother and I end up mingling with the folks of different generations, or if not, indulge in New Year Goodies or watch the telly.

However this year, I managed to squeeze some time out of my usual schedule out of every New Year to have dinner at dear's grandfather (dad's side).

Well you know, meeting the relatives at his end gives me the jitters and I guess it works the same for him too. But I think everything went well :)

Youth Steamboat Reunion 09

Yesterday, the youths had a Steamboat Reunion Dinner instead of the usual Youth Service every Saturday.

It was held at our church's very own rooftop and it was our very first youth steamboat event ever!

Well, previously we've only tried to barbeque upstairs, so having steamboat is really our very first time!

Gosh! It was certainly a lot of work preparing the food, setting up the place, doing up the decoration, but every sweat and effort was worth it when you see everyone having fun and enjoying themselves! Thank God for the good weather too!

The photos are up here and here.

Next up, Love Fest on Valentine's Day! Tune in!

Folks These Days

Perhaps with the Chinese New Year mood in the air, even aunties are being more "garang!" (Malay slang which means daring).

I bumped into this lady on Saturday while waiting for the bus to church. As I stood behind her, I couldn't help staring at her colorful hair.

As I looked closer at the jarring array of colors of this lady's hair, an image of a parrot came into my mind. I smiled. Then an image of one of Singapore's local dessert - 九层糕 came into my mind. I smiled again.

It's funny when I think about it. The older generation often disprove of the younger ones dying their hair, having tattoos, or body piercings, yet some of them go the extreme of dying their hair with loud colors.

Any how, looks like the definition of fashion in different generations vary to a considerably large extend :)

Airport Adventures: Faith Walk

Somewhere this week, dear and I headed down to Terminal 3 at Changi Airport to chill.

As it was late, we decided to leave and doing so required us to walk from one end of the airport to the other end where the bike was parked.

While walking, dear suddenly closed his eyes and placed his right hand on my left shoulder, and continued to walk.

That's when I decided to lead him (with his eyes closed) from the far end of the airport where we were to the other end, through the carpark and to the bike.

We walked slowly, and there was a naughty moment of mine when I led him into a pillar to see if he was peeping. Well, turns out that I was wrong!

After what seemed like an arduous journey at the expense of a great length of time, we finally made it!

..

A few days after this incident while sitting on the train on my long journey home, I pondered about this faith walk and I tried putting myself in his shoes to feel how it would be like.

I would be terrified and my legs would be frozen to the ground!

So I concluded that dear either had alot of trust and faith in me, or he was really really brave.

Then it dawned upon me that isn't our walk with God as such?

More often than not when we walk with Him by faith, it is like closing our eyes, holding on to His hands, and walking?

And then I realised from the little faith walk I had with dear that similarly, when we walk by faith, it seems like we are taking a longer time than we are when circumstances and situations around us are going well.

But we can always take comfort that when He holds our hands, He will never let go, nor will He lead us to the wrong place because He can see beyond what we can, and He gently comforts us and assures along the way with "Follow Me" or "Do not be afraid, I am with You".

..

Through this reflection of a simple faith walk which occured so ordinary, I am comforted by my walk with Him because even though faith requires us to trust in what we cannot see, faith in Him means there is no need to worry or fear, because there is hope in the one who holds my hand.

The One With Rex

I love this picture!

It simply went as such: "Rex, let's take a photo! 1, 2, 3... Snap!"

Then again, it reminded me of Dexter, and how I missed him so.

Fishing: Trip #2

It has been a long while since I last went fishing with the usual fishing kakis from church, so I finally had a chance to go with them today!

This time round, there were more people than the usual group, and majority of us were actually youths! :)

We met early in the morning, where Uncle Mark and Daniel were kind enough to pick the rest of us at Bishan, Ivy's Place, and My Place respectively.

As usual, we began the day at Changi Hawker Centre for some breakfast, as well as to buy some packed lunch for ourselves to eat on the boat.

At about 8:30 am, we boarded the regular boat that we often use for the previous fishing trips at Changi Jetty.
Getting aboard the boat at Changi Jetty, slowly and carefully.

Soon, the boat left and Andy began Fishing Orientation 101 with Ken, who is a newcomer! Zen's a newcomer too! Looks like we are trying to psycho the fishing culture into the minds of more youths!

Here are some of the pictures that I took along the way to our first fishing spot.

Awhile later, we arrived at a Kelong where we usually buy live prawns as bait. Ken's all excited about his fishing experience!

The weather was beautiful! For the first time in my life, I noticed that there were no clouds in the morning sky! Just a spread of azure blue across the horizon, with the gentle sea breeze and the warm morning sun.. Beautiful!

Here are some of us who went for the fishing trip :) Apparently all the youths were hanging out and feeling the sun and wind whereas the folks were in the shade, napping and reading newspaper! Hehe :D

Andy trying to make fun of Ivy by asking her to tuck her hands in and while doing so, he quickly tied a knot using the sleeves to make her look as if she was in a straight jacket.

Finally! The boat arrived at the fishing spot and we were good to go! We quickly took our rods and began to cast it in the sea!

Above are the seasoned fishermen, also known to be experts, at least to me.

After a few minutes, I caught the first catch and followed by the rest! Ken's first catch was hilarious because he managed to catch a small fish (that is as tiny as a finger) with a live big prawn! Andy also caught one of the bigger kinds of fish at this fishing spot.

Here are some of our catch! I can't remember the names of the fish though. Gotta ask Uncle Mark!

After fishing at one spot, the boatman will bring us to another fishing spot according to his innate boatman instincts. Meanwhile, we grabbed our lunch while the boat was traveling from one place to another.

In the afternoon, the clouds finally came and filled the sky. Still beautiful and very surreal though.

Finally, it was time to head home and we decided to take a group shot with my mini tripod :)
Last but not least, we started splitting up our catch accordingly when we reached Changi Jetty. There were a total of 49 fishes (including those really small ones where Ken wanted to bring home to feed his cat) and the catch of the day was Andy's Red Snapper!

Oh what fun fishing is! Looking forward to the next fishing trip soon!

P/s: There is still this rocking sensation in my system and I can't get it out of my head. As a result, I constantly feel as if I am rocking back and forth! :D Oh well, no pain no gain! Guess the rocking sensation, exhaustion and the bad sunburnt was worth it!

A Slip Of Surprise

I have this irresistible urge to clean and tidy things when I see items strewn across tables, scattered in little piles of mess.

This urge of mine somehow seems to manifest itself and springs in action every time I enter dear's room. So yesterday as I was tidying up dear's desk and putting back items where they should belong, I stumbled upon a 50 dollar bill while opening his desk drawer.

Puzzled as to why he keeps money lying around, I picked up the money and just as I was doing so, a note sprung up from beneath the money and revealed itself.

Seeing that it was the note was scrunched up with words written on it, I unfolded it.

To my surprise, it wrote "SURPRISE! FOR YOU DEAR!"
Stumped at this mini surprise, I started thinking of questions like "When did he write this? Was it really meant for me? What happened if I didn't open his drawer? Does that mean I wouldn't have found out?"

Cheekily, I dangled the note in front of him and asked what is this about.

Immediately, he replied in what seems like a little shock mixed with a wide grin "Oh! You found it!"

I asked if he meant it to be a reward for cleaning his room all these while, and the possibility of me never finding this 50 dollar bill if I haven't opened his drawer.

He replied "Aiya! While you were having dinner, I wanted to put it in your bag but you ate so fast and came in while I was writing the note, so I quickly scrunched it up and hid it in my drawer." (Explains: He usually eats so fast, leaving me alone on the dinner table to finish my dinner by myself.)

Ha ha :D What a funny way to throw me off guard and tickle my funny bone. And if you were still wondering what the money was for, it was for all the dinner/lunches that I bought for our meals.

.. And I thought that the money was a reward for cleaning his room. If it ever was so, I would be hoping for pockets of money for me to uncover while sweeping the floor or wiping the drawers in his room.. just like a treasure hunt. Hehehe! :)
