Steve Jobs Says It All

Here's a video of Steve Jobs delivering his commencement speech to the graduates of Stamford University in 2005. In it, he talks about 3 stories - connecting the dots, love and loss, and lastly, death.

Connecting the dots (4:52)

Again, you can't connect the dots looking forward. You can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something - your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever.

Love and loss (7:48)

I'm pretty sure none of this would have happened if I hadn't been fired from Apple. It was awful tasting medicine, but I guess the patient needed it. Sometimes life can hit you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going, was that I loved what I did. You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for work, as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the way to be truly satisfied, is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work, is to love what you do.

If you haven't found it yet, keep looking - and don't settle. As what all matters of the heart, you'll know when you've find it. And like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking, don't settle.

Death (11:40)

No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven, don't want to die to get there. And yet, death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is, as it should be, because death is very likely the single best invention of life. It's life change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now, the new is you. But some day not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared way.

Sorry to be so dramatic, but it's quite true. Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma, which is living in the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinion drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know, what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

My inspiration for the day. :)

Forgive & Forget

Like majority of the human population, I face a problem of "forgiveness" from time to time. It's not easy I must say, especially when the words and actions of others hurt so deep. And even when time has seemingly 'healed' our wounds, the bitterness and anger still lingers.

It is unhealthy, for both the person who has hurt us and especially ourselves (the victim). Trust me, I do have quite some experience in this area. However, I am still guilty because occasionally, the bitterness from a past incident resurfaces and cause me to be judgmental and critical. But that's because I have not exercised forgiveness. Thus if I have forgiven, things would probably be reconciled much earlier, and both parties would probably not experience any tension of awkwardness.

And so recently, one of my friends shared a link to this video regarding forgiveness:

Gosh. Watching it made me tear quite a bit because there is indeed so much power in forgiveness. It might be painful to forgive someone who has wronged you, did you harm, or even said something that hurts.

But like what the video mentioned, forgiving others doesn't change anything. It does however, give us the ability to trust and love, and liberates ourselves from the bondage of bitterness and pain. Having said that,

When deep injury is done to us, we cannot recover until we forgive. Forgiveness does not change the past, but it does enlarge the future.

Note To God

Seldom do I tear at a video, unless it is really ministering and touching. And this morning, I teared when I watched a video titled - Note To God by Charice.

Note To God - Charice
If I wrote a note to God
I would speak whats in my soul
I'd ask for all the hate to be swept away,
For love to overflow
If I wrote a note to God
I'd pour my heart out on each page
I'd ask for war to end
For peace to mend this world
I'd say, I'd say, I'd say

Give us the strength to make it through
Help us find love cause love is over due
And it looks like we haven't got a clue
Need some help from you
Grant us the faith to carry on
Give us hope when it seems all hope is gone
Cause it seems like so much is goin wrong
On this road we're on

If I wrote a note to God
I would say what on my mind
I'd ask for wisdom to let compassion rule this world
Until these times
If I wrote a note to God
I'd say please help us find our way
End all the bitterness, put some tenderness in our hearts
And I'd say, I'd say, I'd say

Give us the strength to make it through
Help us find love cause love is over due
And it looks like we haven't got a clue
Need some help from you
Grant us the faith to carry on
Give us hope when it seems all hope is gone
Cause it seems like so much is goin wrong
On this road we're on

No, no no no
We can't do this on our own
So

Give us the strength to make it through
Help us find love cause love is over due
And it looks like we haven't got a clue
Need some help from you
Grant us the faith to carry on
Give us hope when it seems all hope is gone
Cause it seems like so much is goin wrong
On this road we're on

If I wrote a note to God

Such a powerful song with strong vocals and meaningful lyrics, that it makes the hair on my hand stand each time I watch. I hope you guys will be blessed by this song too.

The original video that I wanted to embed and share wasn't this actually. But since I can't embed it due to some restrictions, I guess this video would suffice. Anyhow, you guys can watch the original video here.

This Is The Moment

I remembered that the very first time I recited the Pledge was when I was in Kindergarten 2 during my 'graduation' ceremony. Back then, memorizing the Pledge and reciting it in front of a hall full of adults was a big deal because I had to recite it in Chinese and let's face it, that was when I knew what stage fright was.

Then I headed on to Primary School, became a prefect and coincidentally, one of my main duties was to command the whole entire school for Flag Raising as well as the Pledge recitation. You would have guessed that the very first time I stepped on the rostrum, I almost hyperventilated because I was so scared! Subsequently, this duty became so mundane that reciting the pledge became so intuitive. I was 10-12 years old back then and I thought to myself "How could anyone forget how to sing the National Anthem or recite the Pledge?"

Moving on to my Junior College days, the Pledge and the National Anthem continued to stay in my head. Then again I wondered "How could anyone forget how to sing the National Anthem or recite the Pledge?"

So recently in conjunction with this year's NDP (National Day Parade), I decided to support the Pledge Moment and hopefully, win a NDP09 Funpack and $50 Polar Electro vouchers by taking part in this movement. You can also visit NDPeeps website for more on this year's NDP.

That looks easy? Gosh it was actually my third take because for the first few takes, I had long pauses indicative that I forgot some parts of the Pledge! :$

So can you recall reciting the Pledge? If so, take part in this movement and show your support here! Perhaps you can win a NDP09 Funpack too!

Boxes And A Big Ball Of Wire

It's sad to acknowledge that despite being in a long relationship, I have yet to fully understand the mind of a guy; what they are thinking about, how their brain works, what goes through their mind etc.

Fortunately this video has cleared most of my queries about how a Men's brain and a Women's brain work and how they are so different! Watch and have a good laugh! :D

Thanks Vanessa for sharing this on your site!

If only I had a minute fraction of their vocals, I would be contented. If so, I would then be the next participant for Singapore Idol or casually participate in Don't Forget The Lyrics.

All but day dream and cheap hope. Until then, I am stuck with mediocre vocals which might not even be passable to others :)

The Crisis Of Credit

I've never really cultivated a habit of reading newspapers. For one, my family doesn't purchase them often. Secondly, I've come to realized that newspapers are bad news brought to you on a platter.

That's why I have been totally clueless with what's going on around the world, especially the Credit Crisis.

Thankfully, this video has made it easy to understand and comprehend. Do enjoy!

Korg X50

Because of the move to Golden Village, the church needed new instruments and viola!~ Here's the new Korg X50 Keyboard that Uncle Thomas and I have decided. It's super light (as you can see it's really compact) and weighs about 4.5 kg :) So being a noob at these synthesizers, I've decided to bring it home to play around with it and basically get comfortable with it.

Then I came across this demo on youtube with the same Korg X50. Of course, this guy is good.

After hearing what the Korg could come up with, I attempted to try to play the same song with the instruments. Here goes: Please bear with the sound because I recorded it with my macbook's built in webcam. Tada!

Heart-Warming Dance

Watching this is truly heart-warming. By far the most touching, intimate, engaging performance I've ever seen. Puts a shame to our of us with limbs and can't even dance properly.
