Ruby's Resort

Ruby has been growing steadily over the past weeks. He's still adorable though, but just a little bigger :)

To accommodate his growth, I have elevated the Arched Dome, and now he has plenty of leg room to stretch and hop about!

In addition, I have also made full use of a Palm Mat (For Gardening), and placed it beside the Arched Dome.

Now Ruby has enough shade and enough space to move about! I hope he likes it! And even if he doesn't, I wouldn't know! :P

Bei Shan Chuan 北上川

You should have seen my eyes lit up when mom said that we were going to have Steamboat for dinner at Bei Shan Chuan, together with my grandparents last Saturday night. My heart leaped a bit because I simply loooovvvveeeee Steamboat!

Bei Shan Chuan Steamboat Restaurant is known for their Steamboat Buffet, in which you can also make a choice of any 2 different bases of soup for your Steamboat- Mala Soup, Chicken Soup and Tom Yam Soup.

Name: Bei Shan Chuan Spicy Steam Boat Restaurant
Address: Vivo City #03-07 ( Beside Daiso, hiding at one corner)
Telephone: 6222 3880
Price: $16.90 per pax (Weekdays) $18.90 per pax (Weekends)
* Prices exclude discounts for senior citizens, students, and NSF*

Upon entering the restaurant, I was greeted by the chic oriental feel that makes one feel welcomed and at home. The warm spotlights and lotus-like lamps also add on to the warm ambiance.

As mentioned afore, you can have a choice of 2 different soup bases in one Steamboat! I tried Ma La and Chicken Soup base for my table, and it wasn't too bad. However for the Ma La soup, it was more peppery and blend as compared to the authentic Ma La Soup. As for the Chicken Soup Base, it was really 'normal'.

How this restaurant works is simple. On every table would be a Steamboat, and you can head on to the buffet table where a variety of food is laid. Ranging from Seafood, to Finger food, Dessert, Fruits, you can simply take your pick according to your preference and head back to your table to cook.

Any how, I personally feel that their Beef and Fish are more tasty as compared to the rest of the food, which tasted pretty normal.

On the flip side, this place charges you for your drinks - and that means no free flow of plain iced water or warm water. Could you recall a place where you were charged $1.00 for a glass of water? Quite ridiculous if you ask me.

In addition, the Steamboat doesn't have a cover, so boiling/cooking would take quite some time.

In summary, this place is average but I personally feel that it is a little pricey for a Steamboat Buffet Dinner. For the same price, you could probably buy enough groceries that could last for 2 Steamboat Dinners.

Love Bears All Things

If you had to ask me, I would say that the toughest thing in a relationship would not only be surviving quarrels, but doing things together despite the very different interests both parties have.

Like for me, I like nature, hiking, going out in the sun, having fun, visiting places etc.. But dear would probably prefer something else like watching a movie where it is air-conditioned and there's no need to perspire, or going out and chilling at a place together or with friends etc..

By now you should get my point :)

So sometimes, for me to suggest something I really like would be rejected by him because he doesn't like it or he doesn't want to.

However that is rare because often, he tries to accompany me whenever I suggest to go to a place.

Of course on my part, I try to make my suggestions a little less extreme like going sun-tanning because I know that he would say no for sure.

I on the other hand, am pretty much spontaneous and on the ball, so I'm fine with wherever he wants to go.

Nonetheless, we always have fun and enjoy each other's company :D

Take for example on Monday, we decided to hang out at the Budget Terminal and take a little look-see, at the same time, pick up the Missions Team who were arriving back from Cebu.

We had no idea that Budget Terminal was really bare and empty. Not much things to do around too.
Since we about 40 minutes early, we decided to sit down, have some hot drinks, play with our iphones, and talk.

So you see, being in a relationship is tough especially when we have to compromise on our likes, dislikes, preferences and even habits.

But the comforting to know is that - LOVE BEARS ALL THINGS.

1 Corinthians 13:7
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

I Am Mr Bump

It must be my small ankles that frequently cause me to trip and bump into things, or having Anemia, where I might face equilibrium difficulties.

I simply have to find a way to stop being so clumsy!

Yesterday, while kneeling near Ruby's cage and giving him his usual amount of Timothy Hay, I lost balance while trying to get up and hence, fell head forward to the edge of the brown table located several centimeters away and bumped my head.

It was like the cartoons, where I thought I saw 'stars' or 'birds' flying around my head, chirping repeatedly.

Thankfully, there wasn't any bleeding and all that's left of this incident is a painful and throbbing little bump on the upper left of my forehead.

I don't know what to do with it really, so I took a plaster, and pasted it over the bump even though I know it doesn't help. Ha!

Ruby Goes Hog-Wild

I know I have been posting many pictures of Ruby ever since the first day he was brought home.

But hey, here's a video of how crazy and happy Ruby can be when he is in his own world.

Ha ha I know mom is going to go bonkers and will even clean up my room after she has seen this but man, capturing such joyous moments of him is not an everyday affair.

Tee hee hee! I love this little boy! :D

Little Miss Fatigue

I must have rested too much in the past month that even going for one or two lessons a day would feel as if my life was a ballon slowly deflating away.

Or if not, I have been having activities every night this week that coming home would immediately make me want to plonk onto bed.

In addition, there is a Flu Bug going around and seriously, it doesn't help my already tired being.

Imagine some days I am wake up with a runny nose like a dripping tap, then go for lessons with perpetual headaches from excessively sneezing and blowing of my nose, then head down to whatever activity I have after school. Head home. Sleep. Repeat.

But this is just the mid-week. There's still Thursday, Friday and the weekends where activities are already lined up in my schedule. What a stark contrast this week has been as compared to last week, where life was slow paced because of my holidays.

Any how, it sure does feel like I'm going straight from gear 1 to gear 5. No wonder I kept yawning today :(

Double Aces

Even as I have progressed on from my Diploma to my Advanced Diploma beginning today, part of me still remained unsettled as I anxiously await the results from my last term of Diploma.

It has been a month or so, and my results have finally arrived to my mailbox:

Yes! Double As for both my subjects! Boy I was really elated and ecstatic when I tore open the envelope! :D

See for the first three terms of my Diploma, I have been getting A and B each term respectively.

It got so frustrating after the third term probably because of my own expectations. After all, I did my tutorials, attended lessons, studied for my tests, and revised for my exams. I thought that this should be the recipe for getting double A's.

Nonetheless, I finally did it and am certainly satisfied :D

Furthermore, I have never been good in Mathematics. I remembered how my childhood was filled with Mathematics Tuition each year and yet I still got Bs.

This time round, you bet I am thrilled when I aced my Business Statistics module! Ha!

Loud Fest 2009

Every year, our youth group would join the rest of the youths from other churches all over Singapore in the annual Loud Fest Conference (previously known as Ignite) to be ministered by various speakers.

It is a time where youths get rejuvenated and passionated in praise and worship, as well as be inspired and ministered by the Word.

I must admit that this year, I had a different attitude and expectation when I headed down for the last session of Loud Fest 2009.

This year, I felt like I was too "old" for this sort of rowdy atmosphere. In fact, I wasn't used to the new style of songs which I felt were too "rockish" for my ears. To sum it all, you could so I was more of a spectator than a participator.

It's sad to admit, and honestly, I'm not proud to be a spectator. To my defense, I did try singing along, but I find myself looking at the screen and the words more than really worshipping and praising Him.

Fortunately, the message by Pastor Glyn awaken my mind to realize that truly, God doesn't care about different styles. He cares about the church. Simply put, some might like the song 'Amazing Grace' in the original hymnal style, but I like it played in Blues while others might like it played in Rock. But does it matter what preference one might have as long as the content and the meaning of the song still blesses our inner man?

With this in mind, the ending praise and worship session was easier for me to focus and participate along.

All in all, I am glad that I made it for Loud Fest 2009. I could have easily gave this a miss but I took the step and went ahead. Needless to say, I was blessed and now I know, that I am really not too old for this after all :)

Boys Will Be Boys

I drew this up after gaining insight and understanding from a fellow brother and sister.

Now I finally understand the whole picture - Boys will always enjoy the company amongst each other because that's where they can always be themselves, whereas with their partner, they have to be Mr. Sensitive, Mr. Gentleman and probably Mr. Compromise.

Well, it's all because of the magic word - Love :)

Back To School

Today will mark the last day of my break before school starts again on Monday.

Honestly, I AM REALLY EXCITED! :D

Can you imagine meeting new friends, new things to learn, getting back to a productive routine or learning and other social activities?

I guess part of the euphoria is knowing that I am moving on with life, keeping myself busy, and yet having time to stop and smell the roses because of the short hours of my academic curriculum.

As contrast to the past month of sleeping at erratic hours, waking up near noon, and playing Pet Society, I regretfully admit that the productive things I've done are spending time with Ruby, litter-training him, and attending my usual church activities.

So really, I've had all the rest I've needed and I'm back on my feet, ready for school anytime now! :)

The Arched Dome

So much for the flimsy burrow I made for Ruby, which served its fullest purpose and function for just a few days before it was destroyed by my inquisitive and growing rabbit.

This time round, I was a little more lazy yet creative. I turned over a wide U-shaped basket which I found somewhere in my kitchen, secured it with some rubber bands and "Eureka!"

It looks like an arched dome. Perfect for the furry critter!

In the day, Ruby would scamper in and out in the attempt to play his one-sided version of Hide-and-Seek.

At night, he would curl himself up into a furry white ball snugging close to the newspapers for warmth.

Oh he's such a darling! I guess this little shelter would definitely last for while :)

The Man Who Dashed

Yesterday while dear was sending me home from his place, we glanced at the massive jam near the Toh Guan exit along PIE (Pan-Island Expressway).

Because of my problematic right eye, I was wearing one contact lens at that time therefore I couldn't see much of the commotion. But with my remaining good eye, I saw police cars, an ambulance, a lorry, some cars, and several people standing in the middle of the expressway.

Just this afternoon, I finally knew why.

A MAN who dashed across the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) yesterday evening created chaos which led to five vehicles crashing near the Toh Guan exit.
The aftermath of the series of collisions across the three-lane expressway left one motorcyclist pinned under a lorry. The 53-year-old man died soon after.

Aircraft service engineer Alvin Tan, 45, who was in one of the cars involved, said the man who ran across the expressway was hit by another car which flung him into the lane he was travelling on.

Mr Tan said he slowed down to avoid hitting him, but the motorcycle behind him bumped his car and the motorcyclist ended up being struck by the lorry.

The 28-year-old man who ran across the road suffered slight abrasions and was arrested for his rash act.

And I thought that there were only funny why-did-the-chicken-cross-road jokes.

Well I guess Singapore has really peculiar people with strange habits such as jumping off MRT platforms and dashing across busy highways.

The Crisis Of Credit

I've never really cultivated a habit of reading newspapers. For one, my family doesn't purchase them often. Secondly, I've come to realized that newspapers are bad news brought to you on a platter.

That's why I have been totally clueless with what's going on around the world, especially the Credit Crisis.

Thankfully, this video has made it easy to understand and comprehend. Do enjoy!

The Little Burrow

Having so much time on my hands, I make rabbit toys occasionally.

Like the little hideout that I've made for Ruby as shown above, it was made out of a used empty tissue box, cut to create a huge opening and laid with newspapers inside.

At first, I thought it would make a good comfy sleep area.

However Ruby has his own plans.

One day I was in my room and I heard some a strange noise coming from the kitchen.

At once I knew it was Ruby, so I dashed out of the room in a panic.

Then I found this little guy in the little hideout, trying to "dig" the newspapers.

Well done Ruby! I guess that has officially become your little burrow for you to dig in. :)

Moonlighting

Usually when dear sends me home, it would be a goodbye, followed by a hug, sometimes a little chatter before he zooms home.

Yesterday night however, was really beautiful.

I dismounted the bike, took off my helmet, and incidentally glanced at the night sky when I saw the beautiful rays of the moon light beaming at me.

I nudged dear to look, and for quite a moment, we gazed at the moon in silence.

I guess we were both appreciating the beauty of God's creation as we silently stood in awe. Well I can't speak for him, but I sure know that I did so.

Then I suggested to take a pictures of what I thought was a beautiful moment. Dear agreed, so we quickly whooped out my portable tripod and my camera, placed it on top of his bike, and set the camera on to timer.

Viola~ The moon from our view. Indeed my understanding of quality time - caught in a beautiful moment, being with a loved one, and a heart full of awe of His creation.

Rabbit Orientation: Poop

Ruby's just the exact opposite of Mocha.

He is docile, tame, gentle, cuddly, soft, and mischievous. All but one thing, he isn't litter trained.

Well, he's only 3 months old and there are lots for him to learn. But right on top of the training list is poo poo training.

I'm not an experienced rabbit owner per se, so I'm getting all the help from online sources and another rabbit owner.

Currently, I'm shifting his litterpan to the places where he likes to pee, and transferrring his poop to the litter pan, hoping that he will smell the place where he should properly unload.

I must say that there is progress each day because now, Ruby pees on top of the litter pan, and occasionally somewhere else.

But still, he's a quick learner :p

Caffeine To The Rescue

I have been a devout coffee junkie since my early teenage years.

Admittedly, I drank 2 to 3 cups a day especially during my secondary school and college days.

Now, just a cup of java in the morning to kick start my genes would suffice. Failing to do so would say, result in really unexpected reactions; most of which include irritability, scowling, fatigue, and the lack of mood to even make simple choices.

So to play safe, I drink my cup of Nescafe 3-in-1 Rich Coffee religiously every morning.

However in the interest of my health, people have been warning me about the disadvantages of caffeine, in hope that I would drink less and if possibly, totally quit drinking.

That's not possible really, because coffee unlike smoking which is equally addictive, has advantages that blow my mind away.

Some recent discoveries about caffeine:

Caffeine stops hair loss and treats baldness
A new research has shown that that caffeine can induce hair growth proliferation of human hair follicles published by the prestigious "International journal of dermatology" in 2007. This is achieved by blocking the hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT) produced by the male hormone testosterone. The hormone is considered to destroy hair follicles in hereditary hair loss or pattern baldness. Read more..

Caffeine may kill some skin cancer cells
Several studies have shown that people who regularly drink coffee or tea seem to have lower incidences of nonmelanoma skin cancers. One recent study of more than 90,000 Caucasian women found that with each additional cup of caffeinated coffee consumed, there was an associated 5 percent decreased risk of developing one of these skin cancers (decaf coffee had no effect). Read more..

Caffeine reduces the risk of Alzheimer's Disease
An earlier study in humans hinted that caffeine was protective against Alzheimer’s disease by showing that Alzheimer’s patients consumed markedly less caffeine during the 20 years preceding disease diagnosis compared with age-matched individuals without Alzheimer’s disease. Read more..

Amazed? You bet I am. But of course, I wouldn't use any of the reasons above as excuses to increase my coffee intake because I believe in moderation albeit my love for coffee :)

Ruby The Rabbit

Not sure since when my brother had this acute affection for small pets, he bought home this little cute white lobbed-ear rabbit with the thought that he still hasn't given me anything for my 21st birthday.

While my birthday's just a cover-up, I think he bought it because he really fell in love with this cute little animal.

Any how, I had the honor to name it and so I came up with RUBY - because he has red eyes.

Currently my brother and I are pretty cautious with Ruby because he's so small and young - 3 months old in fact. But we're trying hard to remember everything the pet shop owner says about raising a bunny. It's tedious, and lots of care and love has to be put into taking care of him.

We'll see how he grows. In the mean time, we officially have 2 rabbits.. momentarily :)

Miss PMS

It's bad enough to battle with cramps, backaches, fatigue and cravings. Now add in an evil concoction of fiery hormones that triggers several outbursts - It's quite a tough one to balance really.

Not like there is an instant remedy to preserve my sanctity at this point of time. No amount of adrenaline, primrose oil, and painkillers can set my mind and emotions down on the same line.

So really, the last thing I need is a quarrel.

Face Of Youth

More often than not, teenagers struggle with low self esteem, inferiority, identity, and acceptance which causes us to sometimes doubt our capabilities and power of influence.

But somewhere in this blue round earth, a teenage girl stands up for her belief, and shocks the world by giving a 5 minute speech that sets the audience in the UN thinking.

1 Timothy 4:12 (NIV)
Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.

I believe that no matter how young a person is, be it a teenager or a kid, or even a child, he or she has the power of influence to stand up what is right and speak the truth in all circumstances.

More so for young believers, don't look down on yourself and say you can't, but look up to Him and say you can :)

2 Weeks Left

For the last 6 months of school, I haven't had a single holiday (apart from Public Holidays) and now that I have a month to enjoy myself and mutate into a couch potato, I am beginning to doubt the productivity of my time.

See it's been 2 weeks into my holiday and the siren in my head has gone off already. The damage of these 2 weeks have made me bored, anti-social, really crappy, and attention seeking.

I wouldn't blame anyone, in fact the things I've done in my past 2 weeks have become so mundane that I am really surprised that my brain hasn't melted into goo.

It's not that I am lazy too. I did some online job-hunting and with all the economic gloom, it was normal to not be able to find a temporary job for just a month.

So enough of Pet Society, waking up near noon, and re-watching every season and episode of Friends. I will resolve to start meeting friends and do something fruitful with me time, because in a blink of an eye, my holidays will be over.

Finding Your Body Fat

A certain anxiety has caused me to realize that body fat is one of the factors that affected it.

Well, I thought being lean and slim shouldn't be a problem, until I did a mini body fat test and got my results - 12.2%, which according to the chart below, isn't really ideal.

Seriously, I know I'm really a fussypot with food but I still eat my meals regularly.

Well maybe not a whole portion because I've got a small stomach capacity. But my stomach is really efficient and I get hungry really fast again.

What's more with a month of not doing anything and hibernating at home most of the times, I have been bingeing on snacks.

Grrr. Guess I need more carbohydrates :(

What's Your Response?

When I was little girl, I attended Sunday School and was taught that worship was singing songs during the short Praise and Worship sessions before lessons began.

Then I grew older and progressed in Youth Minstry, where I learnt that worship included the giving tithes and offerings, obedience, offering our bodies as living sacrifices, as well as holy living.

And now as I step into adulthood, I learn that worship is our response to God.

It is simply our response to God by doing our Quiet Time daily, striving to live a life of righteousness, singing praises to him even though we don't feel like doing so, serving him even though we are tired, obeying Him even though it costs us to make painful decisions etc..

Hence I would say that worship, is really a deliberate choice and determination to respond to God by doing the above mentioned.

So what is your response to Him today? :D
