Jesus Demands Everything

I got this off Samuel's blog (Thanks Sam!) because it really ministers and speaks to my heart about how we view God, how precious our salvation is, and how Jesus demands our everything.

It's really has been a long time since I heard a preacher speak the truth in such a solemn and factual manner. For that, I admire his courage and boldness because it's hard to speak the truth that no one wants to hear, or one that grips our heart with guilt and self-reproach.

Nonetheless, this serves as a reminder for myself (and I hope for everyone) that our Salvation, like what Paul Washer mentioned, is not a flu shot. He demands our everything because He is worthy and loving, and just.

"So difficult is our Salvation that only God can make it possible."

Indeed, our Salvation is so precious, so important, so valuable. Let's not take it for granted.

RR COA 2009

Last Sunday, I had the opportunity to take some photos of the Royal Ranger COA - An event where the rangers had to present the skills they have learnt in Royal Rangers so far, and at the same time, the badges that will be presented to them according to the different merits and skills they have learnt.

It was quite a joyous and light-hearted event, with the rangers and their parents, and all the commanders, helpers, teachers etc. It was certainly fun taking pictures and snapping away! :D

A glimpse of everyone having a hearty lunch before the event began

Zhen Long sure does look happy and really contented

Even the adults were laughing! Looks like they are having fun as well!

The event started off with a Praise and Worship session led by Ivin

Holding hands to signify unity in the body.

The commanders were in their fun mode: Smiling, laughing and grinning!

The young ones presented their skill of making Peanut Butter Balls.

These are cooked Peanut Butter Balls that were passed around for the adults to try

These kids presenting different scenarios where they could put their First Aid skills into practice.

Another scene where Rufus "drowned" because of leg cramps and how another ranger saved him with his First Aid knowledge

And while Pastor was talking to the parents in the main hall, the kids were ushered to a room where they played a game of "Who-can-keep-quiet-for-the-longest"

Haha. They don't seem pleased about this game! :D

All in all, I am really proud of these rangers and all the commanders! As compared to my time where Sunday School was just a session of singing songs, memorizing verses and discussing bible stories, these children have indeed so much potential and skills in them that are practical, useful and meaningful.

3 Cheers for the Royal Rangers!

Transformers 2

Honestly, I had absolutely no idea that Transformers 2 was out. I must have buried myself too deep in the heaps and piles of notes last week to be aware of what's going around me; and the world.

Fortunately, I was blessed with a pair of tickets to watch the Transformers 2 yesterday at Cathay. (Thanks Chris and Weston!) So dear and I rushed down from church to Cathay to meet Ruth the organizer (Thanks for organizing!) and the rest of the group, and together, we proceeded to catch the movie at Hall 6.

And for those who have no idea what Transformers is, or what Transformers 2 is about, here's a trailer for you:

My my! I must say that I must give this show two thumbs up! (Well, that's all the thumbs I've got anyway)

It is filled with non-stop action, nice plot, and graphics that will blow you off your seat! So throughout the show, I was staring at the screen with the occasional covering of my ears because of the loud sound effect. Basically, I was absorbed into every part of the show!

Well, that's because I like action-packed, suspense, thriller, block-buster kind of shows, and Transformers 2 is exactly as what I've described above.

Love it love it LOVE IT!~ :D

Time To Chill

Phew! A week of exams are finally over and here I am, sitting on the couch, drinking my favorite coffee and breathing in all the fresh air in the world.

So I reckon that sometimes, it is only when we go through the most hectic and busiest times of lives that we learn how to relax, enjoy, and appreciate the things around us.

I, for one love to be in the presence of nature, observing creation, enjoying the gentle breeze (and scorching sun once in a while) and just reflecting, thinking, and just spending some quality time with myself and Him.

But with all the skyscrapers, HDB Buildings and especially the constant piling and renovation works outside my house, I'm left to blog about how my ideal form of enjoyment and relaxation should be.

Well, at least I still have my favorite cup of coffee :D

Mr. Spleen

Yesterday, I mentioned about many episodes of watery poo poo I have been experiencing lately. Today, I found out the causes of it - at least I think so.

In traditional Chinese medicine, loose stools, abdominal bloating, lack of energy, and poor appetite are signs of a condition known as spleen qi deficiency. It doesn't necessarily involve your actual spleen, but it is a condition of general tiredness and weak digestion brought on by stress and poor diet.

Other symptoms of spleen qi deficiency are:
  • easy bruising
  • mentally foggy
  • bloating, gas, loose stools
  • fatigue
  • poor appetite
  • loose stools with little odor
  • symptoms are worse with stress
  • undigested food in the stools
  • difficulty ending the bowel movement

Spleen qi deficiency is thought to be brought on by stress and overwork. However, diet can worsen spleen qi deficiency, specifically eating too many foods that are believed to cause cold and dampness in the body:
  • fried or greasy foods
  • dairy
  • raw fruits and vegetables
  • cold drinks
Dietary treatment involves eating warm foods. Ginger tea and cinnamon tea are thought to be warming.

Aha! Looks like I should indulge relax more, eat more warm and hot stuff and it will pretty much go away. At least now, I my mind is at ease :)

Die-rrhea

While some binge on snacks when they are stressed, I have stomach pains and a loss of appetite.

Like having Irritable Bowel Syndrome isn't bad enough, the recent spike in diarrhea or watery stools has made me even more cautious of what I eat and wary of the stress levels I might be facing.

The thing is: I am neither adventurous with taste-buds nor eating well. So what I eat shouldn't be the cause of it.

Then again, stress levels have been shooting up because of my exams all week but it isn't all that stressful as compared to my 'O' or 'A' Levels.

Hmmm. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that these episodes of watery poo poo will stop once my exams are over tomorrow.

Flea Finds: 21-06-09

I guess I am one of the more fortunate ones in the Cheapskate Community who has a flea market near my house every month.

But having said so, I do not visit these flea markets every time because usually, dear would drop me off at my block when he sends me home and hence I don't have a chance to walk the usual route home where I would then have to pass by the flea markets.

Yesterday however, he dropped me off at the MRT station because I had to run a few errands. So while walking home, I saw from a distance a stretch of brightly-lit lights and unknowingly, I walked excitedly towards the lights to see what was going on.

When I realized that it was the flea market, I quickly walked home and put down my things so that I would have enough hands to rummage through the piles of clothes that were going at $1 or $2.50 per piece.

True enough, I did manage to find 2 pieces of clothing:

On the left, a bright yellow zebra shirt that is really comfortable and slim-fitting!

For those who know me or have seen me regularly, I'm not a T-shirt person because I look like a hanger if I put on normal T-shirts. And because of the weather, I reckon that tanks tops are easier to slip on than T-shirts.

On the right, a red kimono top that I intend to wear on probably Chinese New Year or Christmas.

Both pieces were bought at $2.50 each. Aren't they cheap and good finds! :)

Happy Father's Day 2009

When it comes to Father's Day, I belong to a small minority of Singaporeans who don't know what to get, and hence I've unconsciously cultivated a habit of letting this event pass by each year.

But now that I'm older, I make a point to do something or buy something 'meaningful' for both Father's day and Mother's day. So for Mother's day, I got my mom a bunch of flowers. As for Father's day, I decided to get dad a Pandan Cake and decorate it with the word D-A-D using raisins.

What do you think? :D

Take A Deep Breath

June has been pretty action-packed so far. For the first weekend of June, I was at Port Dickson. On the second weekend, I was away at Batam.

But after two weeks of traveling and fun, I have to switch to my studious self and start preparing for my exams next week.

It's tough, really, to study and have a long list of to-dos at the back of my head. It's annoying, distracting, and I am very tempted to strike of every to-do on that list so that I can have the peace of mind to focus.

On top of that, I have another growing list of anxieties and worries.

These 2 lists combined really makes me heave several sighs of resignation.

So right now, the only thing I can do is to take long, deep breaths and repeat to myself "You can do it."

So Far So Good

It is good to have someone who never fails to remove prawn shells, fish bones or chicken bones for me.

It is good to have someone who picks up food from food dishes and place it on my plate.

It is good to have someone to welcome me at the Arrival Hall when I'm back from Batam.

So far, he has been good.

From the picture above, you can conclude that I'm not exactly a caring pet owner.

But man, the weather's so hot and the sun's exceptionally glaring these days.

Church Camp 2009 (Day 4)

Soon, it was the last day of the camp and after lunch, we gathered in the lobby for the minivans to pick us up and send us to Batam Ferry Terminal.

Upon arrival at Batam Ferry Terminal, the crowd and the lack of air-conditioning was quite a turn off.

But since we had time to kill, Michelle and I explored the Terminal further.

I was quite surprised to find that they sell Spongebob Ice-cream that's in a shape of Spongebob itself. If I didn't had my period, I would have bought it the moment I saw this.

Finally it was time and we could check into the Terminal. But it was much more crowded than I'd expected.

After a long wait, we finally made our way to the docks where our ferry was berthed.

I must say that Church Camp this year caught me by surprise. On one hand, I didn't expect much before the camp started because I was pretty sad that dear couldn't go and I was a little disoriented after the Port Dickson trip.

But during the camp itself, I saw how God moved, how He touched the hearts of many and sent a mighty breakthrough in this camp.

Indeed I was so blessed during this camp and I'm sure that this camp has impacted everyone of us in each way.

Church Camp 2009 (Day 3)

After a hearty breakfast on the third day, the youths took a group shot with our youth camp T-shirts on.

We then proceeded to the Lobby where we had to wait for the Mini Vans to arrive and pick us up for our shopping trip!

The minivans were like the ones we took on the first day to the Hotel. However not all the youths went, so there were more space for us to stay comfy in.

First stop was the Polo T shirt store. Since I'm not a fan of T-shirts, I didn't get any. Anyway, I came to Batam with a quest: that was to get 3 full face helmets in Nagoya Hill Shopping Centre.

Second stop was the dry food store, where crackers and tidbits of different sorts could be found.

Beside the tidbit store was a craft store that sells ornaments carved out of wood. They also had keychains carved out of wood, and provided free engraving services to personalize your very own keychain.

Finally, the last stop was Nagoya Shopping Centre. When I alighted from the minivan, I walked right to the Information Counter to ask for directions to the helmet shop.

Tada! There it was as! Shelves of helmets to choose from. I bet dear would have gone ecstatic if he saw this!

After getting the helmets, I met some of the youths at A&W. Ha ha they were all eating their chicken and drinking their Root Beer Floats in delight.

After the shopping trip, some of the youths headed down for a swim. I on the other hand, drifted off to dreamland while watching some telly.

At the last night of the camp, it was the Oscar Night where everyone had to be dressed in their best. So I got up from my beauty sleep and prepared myself for the event.

As you can see, people were streaming in and chatting with one another before they could enter into the ballroom.

Slowly, the ballroom started to be filled with people.

I had an opportunity to take a group picture of the waiters who have served us faithfully over the past few days.

The brothers in our youth took a group shot before entering the ballroom. In fact, it was mandatory for anyone to take a picture before going into the ballroom.

Since I didn't have any partner, I took a picture with my dearest sister Jaime instead. My dress was a good deal: $10 from Alano.

A group shot of the youths that were sitted in my table.

And another group shot of youths that were sitted in the other table.

Part of the program included a birthday celebration of all the June babies. Too bad I didn't get to try the cake.

The long queue of people that were queuing for their food. I guess everyone was starving after all the photo taking and the icebreaker games.

But the highlight of the Oscar Night was this:

Church Camp 2009 (Day 2)

On the second day of the camp, the youths gathered in the Aerobics Room for their usual morning workout to get our lazy bodies moving.

Then we had morning devotion which was led by me for the second morning, and Ivin for the third morning.
Took a quick shot of the English Service whilst making my way to the toilet.

And another shot of the children having fun with the Kids Program.

And yet another shot of the Chinese Service. Umm. I think my toilet break was pretty long.

After lunch, the youths had an action packed afternoon filled with games and more games! The above picture was a game of tug-of-war between 4 teams.

Another game required us to take a group picture of our team with the TV.

For dinner, some of the youths who sat at the same table decided to play a few rounds of 7-up. Poor Amos who was in a losing streak ended up with flowers in his hair as a forfeit.

After the night service, the youths had another activity before the day came to a close. It was called "Strings of Life".

This activity required us to hold on the end of the string and the throw a ball of strings to the person who had impacted us the most during this camp. This went on and soon it revealed a network of strings that connected us and turns out to be that everyone had at least impacted someone in this camp.

Church Camp 2009 (Day 1)

This year, my church's annual church camp was held at Batam - Planet Holiday Batam. It was a change from the usual church camps held in Malaysia because we had to travel by ferry from Singapore to Batam.

Well, the traveling distance was certainly much shorter, in fact it was about 1 and a half hours ferry ride instead of a 5 hour bus ride to Kuala Lumpur for our church camp last year. I was glad, because I hate long traveling hours and let's just say that ferry rides don't give me motion sickness as easily when compared with bus or car rides.

Unfortunately, dear wasn't able to go because of his exams on Monday.
At 11 plus, our church gathered at Harbourfront Centre in wait to check in and get our documents (boarding pass, passport, white card etc..) ready.

The youths were split into 2 groups, led by Bernard and Esther respectively. This helped to ease confusion because it there were so many people waiting to board various cruises and ferries, so getting lost was something we'd all like to avoid.

After checking in, we had to wait at the waiting area to board the ferry to Batam. As you can see, the crowd was rather big.

Getting aboard the ferry was tough too because there were just too many people.

On the ferry, the youths had to seat on the second deck (with no air-con) because the first deck was full.

The second deck was pretty full too. Unfortunately, there was no air-conditioning. Only fans.

The view of the first deck from the back. Guess everyone's comfortable here.

Pastor Rupert (Left) and Pastor Bryan (Right) who were our Youth Speaker and English Speaker respectively.

Our youths having fun chatting and talking, whilst enjoying the sea breeze and sunshine.

I love this photo and this cute little girl! She is ssssoooooooooo adorable!

After alighting from the ferry in Batam, we had to take a short bus ride in a mini van to the hotel. Though the youths were cramped like sardines in a can, everyone still posed for a fun shot!

Finally, we arrived at the Hotel and my my, the lobby looked grand with those huge pillars and golden chandelier.

We had to gather in one of the ballrooms for further briefing, prayer and a short time of praise and worship.

After which, the youths had their activities which included a few Icebreaker games.

Not sure what this game is about because I was busy setting up the instruments. But it sure does look interesting!

Youths waiting for further instructions. Took this shot while I was waiting for the sound technician to come.

Ahhh. I was so glad when I finally got the keys to my room! My roomie was a darling, and let me have the bigger bed which was nearer to the windows.

From my balcony, I could see the swimming pool nice and clear..

.. As well as Nagoya City. It was nice to catch the sunset over the city.

After settling down and unpacking, it was time for dinner. The venue was held in one of the ballrooms and it was certainly a good time of fellowship and over the dinner table.

Port Dickson '09 (Day 2)

The next morning, breakfast was held at the cafeteria. Indeed a very homely and cosy setting.

After checking out, we headed to Malacca for lunch. Boy, it was so packed and crowded!

I really had no idea that Malacca was famous for their Chicken Rice Balls and Chendol. I just had to try it!

Personally, I'd prefer Singapore's Chicken Rice. First of all, the Rice Balls were hard and dry and I ended up giving most of my Rice Balls away. Secondly, I felt that that Chicken wasn't as succulent as I expected it to be.

After a heavy and hearty lunch, we decided to chill out at their local cafe for some drinks.

On the way back, dear and I stopped by to take some scenic pictures. While he was glanced away to admire nature's beauty, I took a snapshot of this picture. I really like it!

This picture wasn't intentional either. Dear was merely waiting for me to get back up! :)

All in all, I did enjoy myself - especially the go-karting! I'm definitely looking forward to more trips to come! :D

Port Dickson '09 (Day 1)

For 21 years of my life, I haven't been on a holiday with my friends before. Most of my holidays are usually church camps or family holidays.

This year however, I had a chance to go to Port Dickson with dear and our friends! It was a short trip - 2 days and a night. Nonetheless, I was bursting with excitement and anticipation on the way to Port Dickson.

The journey was pretty long, 4 to 5 hours in fact. Partly because we had short petrol breaks in between as well as a lunch break. When we finally arrived, I was so so so glad.

While waiting for the keys and rooms, I went straight ahead to take photos of the place.

I must say, this resort is unlike the usual resorts I been to. For one, the overall theme and decor of the place feels as if I had stepped into an old cowboy town. It's interesting, unique, and close to nature; especially when I saw a horse carriage pass by me.

A fountain that makes it even more surreal and serene.

While busy snapping pictures, dear and some of the guys decided to have some fun with their bikes at the ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) course.

Spotted a water tank that looks similar to those I frequently see in cowboy shows.

After checking in and unpacking our stuff, the group decided to head out to a go-karting track for some fun. The resort we resided in provides go-karting as well, but lets just say that the speed of the go-karts were a major turnoff.

Go-Karts lined up neatly while waiting for the signal to begin their laps. "3.. 2.. 1.. GO!"

I had a chance to try as well, but I was really excited yet scared! Further more, my go-kart was the more 'responsive' and supposedly to be the fastest one.

Fortunately, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be! Steering around the corners and bends were more challenging because I had to control the speed and ensure that I do not oversteer.

But at the last lap, my breaks gave way. And just as I was about to overtake another go-kart at the bend, I rammed into him because my breaks weren't working! As a result, my go-kart crashed into his and I was stumped! Immediately, I got out of my go-kart to help my friend out of his go-kart. Fortunately, we walked away with just a few scratches and blue blacks.

Dear had a second round too. But during the end of his lap, something went wrong and his go-kart ended up on the grass patch. Don't worry, no injuries were sustained.

After an afternoon of speed at the go-karting track, we headed back to the resort for a swim and then to clean up before dinner.

For dinner, I had Fish and Chips whereas dear had some Crispy Chicken. It was quite a large portion and I ended up eating only one out of two fishes.

Since the night was still young after dinner, the group decided to visit the local towns. Well there isn't really much difference between their local towns and our local 'Pasar Malams', and hence I didn't buy anything.

My Milk Toof

By far, I've read blogs about people, blogs from a dog's perspective, blogs from a kid's perspective, blogs that are in the form of a comic.. but I haven't read any blog from an object's point of view.

Recently, I was recommended to read a blog known as My Milk Toof. Unlike the usual blogs that I read, this blog is really interesting, unique, and sprinkled with ultimate cuteness! So girls if you are reading this, I bet you'll squeal with delight.

My Milk Toof - The Story:
When I was young, I placed my baby teeth under my pillow and when i woke up I'd find a shiny new quarter. But whatever happened to those little teeth? Where did they go? Would I ever see them again?

Many years later, a little tooth was standing at my door. It looked familiar. It's name was ickle. Welcome home, my milk toof!

"I am fast and furious."

All the blog posts revolve around the adventures of Lardee and Ickle, who are the main characters of the blog. But what really amazes me most about this blog is how the author manages to create different expressions of Lardee and Ickle, as well as all the props that accompany these characters. I guess it really takes a lot of effort in either making these props, or purchasing them!

So with great story lines of different adventure, cute characters, and nice photography, what's there to not like?

Ruby Gets Wet

I was told that a healthy rabbit should never bathe because they can keep themselves clean without any help from us humans.

Ruby isn't sick. He's far from sick, in fact he is a pretty healthy boy. But yesterday, I decided to ignore ALL online rabbit advice about bathing because I wanted to keep his white coat of fur clean and at the same time, experience the whole fuss of why rabbits should not be bathed.

So I opened the cage, carried him gently to the toilet, and placed him down on the cold toilet floor. I tried using my legs to cordon him off to an area, and fortunately, it worked. Then I used my hands to turn on the shower and slowly adjusted it to the ideal temperature - mildly warm.

Of course I didn't shower Ruby directly like how we humans bathe. That would definitely send his heart racing until he gets a cardiac arrest. What I did was I slowly wet him with my hands, stroking him each time and cooing him gently. With each stroke I made, Ruby gradually got wetter and wetter, until he was drenched.

Up at this point, I DID NOT SHOWER HIM DIRECTLY. I just kept stroking him with more water and more water, until he got really wet.

Surprisingly, Ruby did not retaliate or struggle. He was a darling! He simply hunched his back with his head stooped low and did not move throughout the whole process! I even checked his heartbeat to see if it was racing which was indicative of being stressed. No, his heartbeat was regular and he continued to remain still even after I have turned off the shower!

Unfortunately I wasn't able to take any pictures of the whole process. But I did take a few shots of him drying up! :)

Ruby licking his hands

Ruby cleaning his face

Ruby cleaning his nose

Ruby drying up under a towel

"Can I come out please?"

Ruby licking his feet

Well I must applaud Ruby for his bravery, and don't worry, I won't bathe him unnecessarily either. But I must say that this whole process wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be! :D

I Geeks

While doing some house cleaning on my external hard drive, I found this picture that tickled my guts!

Dear, recording a scene for a skit 5 to 6 years ago.

Dear and I are completely opposites - He's the logical, intellectual, smart, IT kind of guy. I on the other hand, am the emotional, sensitive, arty-farty and creative sort of girl.

So on most days, we complement each other. On other days, our strengths become our weaknesses and well, things become the opposite of blissful.

Despite our stark difference in personality and character, I'm glad that music draws us together. You can say that it is the only thing where we work best together, probably due to the frequent jamming sessions we had when we first got together. Now, we both serve in the church band and are ever passionate about music and God.

Any how, I guess I'm quite an open book. Whatever I'm thinking or feeling pretty much shows on my face. Trust me, I am still in the process of getting a hold of my emotions and inducing smiles when meeting with people in a public place.

Dear on the other hand, is mysterious. He keeps thoughts to himself, and does not reveal his feelings easily. Most of the time, he keeps it in an imaginary box somewhere in the basement of his heart.

Nonetheless, he is my better half, the guy that people can rely on, the one to call when you are faced with an IT related problem, the one your can trust to keep a secret. With that, I like him a lot.

Cross Stitch

Despite our busyness, dear and I still managed to squeeze some time out and chill out at our favorite hangout to talk and have a hearty supper.

During the course of our talk and supper, I was reminded of a Cross Stitch illustration told by someone recently. On the surface, the final picture of the Cross Stitch looks neat and good, but at the back the beautiful artwork, threads and knots run all over the place in an incoherent mess.

I guess this illustration spans across different examples in reality - Teamwork, Organization structure, Business processes, and even Love.

Just like any other couple, we have disagreements, we debate, we quarrel, sometimes cold wars, but I guess just like the analogy of the Cross Stitch, these processes make up the whole entire picture of what Love really is.

So despite my ideology of what love should be, I've learnt to accept disagreements, debates, quarrels, and tiffs. Because now I know that these help us to grow stronger, deeper, and more matured.

Happy Birthday Mom '09

The birthday photo for mom

This year, Mom's birthday was very 'homely' and simple. When I mean 'homely', it means that we didn't have the usual Birthday dinner like how we used to have every other year.

Nonetheless, brother and I shared money to buy her a cake, which I felt was the minimum we could do to celebrate the day where she was wonderfully and fearfully made by Him.

On top of that, I got her the same present that I got for dad, with a different picture of course!
