Airport Adventures: Trip #7

Seriously, last night wasn't meant to be an Airport Adventure at all. After all, the original plan was just to study with my classmates at the airport till.. we felt like going home.

But surprise surprise, dear made an entrance late at night and for that moment in time, I felt that fuzzy wuzzy warm comfortable feeling. Well, I had a long tiring day at work, and had to rush down to the airport after that.. the whole day was just hectic and rush rush RUSH!

Like how fairy tales usually end with a happy ending, so was my day.

Start of the day, I braided my hair again. Seems like I'm getting better at it!

This burger has a story behind it. Basically, the patty was 'chao da' and there were HUGE chunks of vegetables stuck to the patty. More like a vegetarian burger than McSpicy.
Here's Josh, in his studious look! But looks doesn't really reflect one's character, isn't it?When dear arrived, we took the Sky Train to Terminal 2 for some Burger King

It was late at night, we were both tired. Especially him, after successfully clearing his IPPT and getting a reward $200!
Because my friends were leaving, I had to rush back to Terminal 3 to pack my stuff too. For the first time, I was alone in the Sky Train. Pretty scary though!
Burger King, here we are! Did I mention how tired we were? Hehe!
The day ended off with a match of Checkers. I lost of course, to my highly intelligent boyfriend.
And so, from Study Trip to yet another Airport date. Pretty cool!

Homemade Fried Rice

If you know me, you would know that as much as I am a fussy pot, I don't have the genes for strong and adventurous taste-buds to withstand strong and rich tastes like chilli, laksa, tom yam etc.. All except PARSLEY! I can eat parsley with anything, sort of like a cow haha!

But the essence is, I love bland neutral food. Not too strong, not too spicy, not too salty, or sour.. just that perfect taste. So you can guess, the food I frequently order would be Fish Soup, Yong Tau Foo, basically anything with noodles and soup. On a side note, I love soup too! Coming from a Cantonese family, what can you expect? After all, Cantonese are well known for their thick tasty soup!

The thing I am trying to get across is, the simplest common dish like Fried Rice that is frequently ordered in a Sze Char store tastes totally different when Mom cooks it. Though not the traditional way of frying the rice with the egg smashed up, and Char Siew Meat with spring onions, hers isn't too far off either! Mom simply replaced the egg with a fried sunny side up, the spring onions with thin slices of long beans, and Char Siew with luncheon meat.

You know how I love eggs, luncheon meat and long beans amongst the rest of my favorite such as baked beans, hot dogs etc.. so this time round, Mom gets ONE and Sze Char store gets ZERO.

French Braid

With the heat wave that's growing stronger each day, I usually pin my hair up with a hair claw. It's really easy - a few twists and turns, and tada, clipped!

But since my hair was getting longer (and more unkempt), I decided to try doing a French Braid instead of clipping my hair up.

What is a French Braid?
A French braid, or French plait, is a popular hairstyle. Unlike a regular three-strand braid, a French braid starts with small sections of hair at the crown of a person's head, and intermittently, more hair is added to each section as the braid progresses down the head. The classic French braid is a single braid at the back of one's head.

The French Braid has always been my favorite hairstyle because it is just so classy and so.. FRENCH! Unfortunately I wasn't blessed with a think crown of hair so I just got to make do with what I have and try it out!

So here's my attempt number one! I'll probably master this art of braiding when my hair grows longer.

Tweaking My Thinking Cap

Sometimes, I marvel at how the simplest questions I ask myself like "Grace, why did you actually make your blog public?" can leave me dumbfounded. I was stumped. I thought about it for a long time, still no answer.

I would like to think that perhaps, I enjoy sharing my life with others and giving others a glimpse of the little woman in me. Or perhaps, I just crave the attention. Seriously, I don't know myself.

As I continue to find out why, I realized that as much as I resolve to post happy thoughts and cheery posts here, there is still an innate desire to spill my rants and lamentations somewhere. After all, it is my form of channeling these thoughts and feelings out of my system.

In view of this, I decided to open up another blog for my private thoughts. It is therapeutic, it is healthy, it really helps to get things off my chest.

Now you know, I'm not that cheery all the time.

Airport Adventures: Trip #6

After a long day of love and fun yesterday, dear and I still decided to head down to our usual favorite hangout at Changi Airport T3 to chill and walk around. For the last few times we went, the crowd was small, and most of the time it is sort of desolate at night.

However this time, we were surprised to see large crowds of people in the airport even late at night! I guess the holidays are coming and everyone's heading out of town for their holidays. I really want my holiday too!

Make-Grace-Happy

Because of a silly ulcer that is hurts so badly that it affects my speech and mood, I have been quiet these days. Even a slightest smile would cause my ulcer to stretch and cause me pain. So you imagine how it is like to be around me, all quiet, edgy, irritable and definitely not smiley.

In an attempt to 'make grace happy', dear bought me a chocolate ice cream. Even if it wasn't my favorite ice cream, he knew that it would make my eyes twinkle with delight!

After a lovely cold saccharine ice cream, we decided to walk around Great World City to look for a jacket that I have recently been wanting. Well, girls.. they never have enough of everything and they have plenty of a particular thing. That works for me too! I have many jackets, including an Adidas one that dear bought on my birthday 2 or 3 years ago (I can't remember hehe), a bike wanna-be jacket I bought during a great SALE at G2000 that has this leather look but soft and spongey inside, and the most recent denim jacket that has this blazer look.

Not to churn up excuses to get another jacket, but honestly, the bike wanna-be jacket is bulky and quite an unwise choice to wear it in au' humid and hot Singapore. As for my denim jacket, it doesn't cover enough chest area to keep warm, and it is on the heavy side.

So as we were walking, we shopped at Zara, then Esprit when suddenly, this rustic dark blue jacket caught my attention!

Without much hesitation, I tried it on and oh boy, how comfortable and light it is inside! You totally feel the fuzzy warmth yet the material isn't too thick to make you perspire. Best of all, it looks really slim and body hugging when zipped fully! Totally my style and taste!

However, the price tag was a major turn off and it totally made my mood and excitement hit rock bottom. If it was beneath a 100 bucks, I would have considered. But, it was $129.90.. way too pricey. Just as I put the jacket back on the rack, dear spluttered "How about I get this for you?.. Take it as our anniversary and an early Christmas present?" I was stunned, shocked, dumbfounded but I refused.

However, he insisted and I accepted the very generous gesture. So here is us, waiting for the sales man to give us a new piece.
Here's me in the new jacket - Body hugging, pockets, comfortable, long, full length zip, rustic jeans color! Looks like he really succeeded in his attempt to 'make grace happy', and I would even say, 'make grace ecstatic'!

Strange, I felt warm in the jacket. Perhaps it wasn't from the insulation of the jacket, but the fuzzy wuzzy feeling of love from a special someone.

Bling Bling

I have never been an accessory person, much less colorful beaded bangles, bracelets, necklaces etc.. I, however like little "bling blings" that give a little twinkle! That being said, I do like little cosmetic jewelry (or real jewelry for that matter) that gives more of a classy, elegant, posh look!

So recently, while doing my regular shopping trip, I came across this little "bling bling" earring that I have been looking out for a long time! Without much thought, I purchased it, replacing my current earring that I have been wearing for almost a year.

Price of Earring: $20.90
Traveling Trip: $1.00
Satisfaction: Priceless

And I was HAPPY :)

For The Very First Time

"Hell hath no fury like a woman's scorn," and I can't agree more. But instead of exploding into rage or angst, I get all emotional and teary, then next I would be brawling.

Not sure when this bad habit of mine kicked in, but I do find myself conversing to God in my head when I'm angry or sad, or even at any random time of the day. I guess it's just closure, or my very simple way of ranting and lamenting without telling people how I really feel. Yet at the very moment of my conversation in my head, my emotions are spilled all over my face, leaving others to ask me "What happened?" I would just shake my head and smile.

Lately, I find myself having more conversations in my head than usual. Probably it's just work, or school, or just the gloomy wet weather, or a little tiff. I'm not too sure exactly, but I sure know that today, for the very first time, I resolved not to dwell on my emotions and thoughts, and look.. FORWARD. It was as if I wasn't bothered about being inferior or self reproaching, or dwelling on the fact that I totally suck at handling my emotions.

At that point of time, everything didn't matter. No matter what thoughts came into my mind, all negativity turned into positivity. And for the very first time, I felt STRONGER and HAPPIER. Perhaps it is true that as we go through every circumstance and experience in our lives, we learn, we grow, we move on.

Lunch At Jack's

It's as if I have genes of becoming a workaholic, I am in serious need of cash, or I am really bored, because I am currently taking up another part time job.

The current IT Music Trainer job that I'm working as is on an ad-hoc basis so I figured that since projects don't come by that often because the school holidays are round the corner, I decided to try my luck in getting another part time job that doesn't require much of my time and energy. For the past weeks, I would just submit resumes and see what comes by and finally, I had a chance to have an interview with the Office Manager of Swiss Education Group today. Guess what? I got the job and had to start immediately after lunch time for training because they really needed someone urgently.

While waiting for time to waste away, I decided to call my aunt who happens to work across the street, and ask if she would be interested for lunch and she agreed! It was a miracle she answered her phone because normally she would off it in the day and turn it on only at night. Looks like lady luck was shining on me today!

After meeting up with aunt, we headed off to Jack's Place at The Heeren.

Address: The Hereen 260 Orchard Road #05-06
Tel: (65) 67388683

We decided to try out their Set Lunches. I mean it's reasonably cheaper, consists of lesser thinking and it probably comes with a drink, soup and desert? First up, Homemade Minestrone Soup!

Then, large slices of Garlic Bread. Not too oily, just nice.

Since the set lunches varies daily, we both ordered their Set Lunch Special on Tuesday: Grilled Fillet Of Fish With Black Bean Sauce. Mind you, their fish is really fresh and huge! Soft white meat with a tad of seafood taste dabbed with Soy Bean sauce. Yummy! Comes along with golden crispy fries and chunky seasonal vegetables.

If you'd knew me, how can I ever not have eggs in my diet? Hehe!
Ok I have no idea what this desert is. I tried asking the waiter "Hello, may I ask what is this dish?" He smiled and said "Cake."

How We'd Have Look

Dear once said that there are 3 kinds of growing changes in life which upon closer observation and deep thought, I thought were really true:

1. As a baby, you were cute but as you grow older, things just don't work out due to the evil changes of puberty.

2. You look horrible as a kid and less cuter than the rest of the babies, but over the years, you evolved from an ugly duckling to a beautiful swan.

3. No matter how adorable and cute you were as a child, you remain as cute and adorable, or even more beautiful. Either that, or due to some genetic hereditary of really unfortunate bad looking genes, you remain normal and average looking, which would get better or worse at the crossroads of puberty.

So which are you? :)

Revisiting Swensen's

On friday, I met up with my friend who happens to be my regular table tennis kaki as well. Normally after our table tennis sessions, we would head to Macdonals at Tampines Mall or the Sze Char store that is located just beneath my house. However this time, I suggest that we have Swensen's for dinner, since my friend owed my 3 table tennis booking fees hehe!

So off we went, towards Tampines Mall where Swensen's is located. Well, this particular outlet claims to be the biggest Swensen's outlet in Singapore, but I really don't see how BIG it is when compared to their other outlets.

Address: 4 Tampines Central 5 #03-30
Tel: 6781 5489
Opening Hours: Weekday (10:30am - 10:30pm) Weekends & Public Holidays (8am - 10.30pm)

Love the lighting, nice decor, warm ambience, comfy seats that I plop in, as well as the company!

My friend had the chocolate malt shake sorta thing, which I honestly feel that you could have gotten something like two Milo Dinosaurs at a regular Roti Prata shop. For me, I had a nice cool sparkling drink of Passion Fruit with a lovely cherry!

For the main course, I decided to try the BBQ Texas chicken with seasonal vegetables and potatoes. Well, I changed my potatoes to fries hehe! Previously, I've been ordering the "safer" choice of Fish and Chip so now here's something different!

My friend has Salmon with Mushroom baked rice! Gorgeous sticky cheese glazed on top of slices of salmon, fantastic! I wanted to order this instead of the BBQ chicken but my friend got ahead first and I didn't want to eat the same food as he did! Thinking of it, I should have just followed my gut feeling, or rather, my tummy rumblings.
Price: $12.90

Unfortunately, I was so disappointed and upset with my main course that I didn't finish it, or simply put, I didn't want to finish it. Reasons are: the sauce though unique with a sweet and sour barbeque taste, they could have been more generous with the sauce, and the meat is too tough and dry! A major disappointment and unsatisfaction!
Price: $14.90

There you go, my sincere critiques and advice! Just a side note, the crew aren't so knowledgeable about the food as I thought they should have been. I asked this waiter for a chef's recommendation and he stammered "Err, urm.. " And I had to prompt more.

Oh Glorious Fries!

Lately, I have been having cravings for Mcdonalds Wasabi Shaker Fries. Well, I'm not a shaker fries person because I was convicted that it is just too salty and somehow, I feel like I'm eating chunks of MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) literally.

However this time round, I am convinced other wise! Thanks to Gilbert who first shared with me his shaker fries, I am now a fan!

Well, it isn't salty and spicy actually. In fact, it has a pleasant seaweed taste with the wasabi after taste! Yummy! Hmm, I haven't tried the wasabi burger yet though. Any one has any idea whether the wasabi burger is worth trying?

Bird Heroes

I was just walking home with my friend and smack in the middle on the pathway stood a bird. Well, it wasn't actually exactly standing but more of sitting instead. This, to me is really quite queer because birds don't normally sit in the middle of the pavement and secondly, they normally flutter their wings in exit when humans come close!

However, this little bird continued to sit on the pavement as my friend and I approached. As we edged closer to find out what's wrong with this bird, it started waddling away, then strolling, then walking. Our first speculation was that the bird might have been injured. I was thinking "Nah, probably it is just too overweight! Maybe, it even had a heavy lunch!"

See, it was moving really slowly. In fact, birdie was taking its own sweet time to avoid danger (us)
Seeing that the bird was probably fine, we started moving off. Suddenly I turned back and saw birdie crossing the road! Now tell me, how often do you see a bird crossing the road?

Well, at the corner of our eyes we could see a vehicle driving by and immediately we started making loud noises to scare birdie so that it would fly away! Instead, birdie remained on the road and waddled off slowly.

I was still shouting "Birdie, fly.. fly!!!"

Hmm, probably it was both overweight and deaf.

As the vehicle approached closer, we could literally see the impending tragedy of birdie. At this moment, my friend decided to do the unthinkable by shoo-ing birdie off the road!

As you can see above, he really looks as if he is talking the bird of a walk.

Anyway, birdie wasn't afraid of us, or the vehicle, or even my friend who stood really close by.

Finally, my friend brought birdie safety to the other side before crossing the road back to where I was standing. Now, that's a bird hero for you!

I was thinking, it would have been really hilarious if the bird continued to waddle back across the road huh! Then, it would have been a vicious cycle of what I call - Bird Walking.

Qian Hu Fish Farm

Some time ago, I was just asking Meldred to contribute some places to visit in Singapore so that I can visit and she suggested Qian Hu Fish Farm! Now regarding farms, I do have some reservations because they are always located in places where transport is a problem! Fortunately with a dear's own transport, we managed to head down to Qian Hu Fish Farm today!

Place: Qian Hu Fish Farm
Address: No. 71, Jalan Lekar, Sungei Tengah, Singapore 698950
Tel: (65) 6766 7087
Fax: (65) 6766 3995
How to get there: Closest MRT station: Choa Chu Kang
Bus Service: Free shuttle bus service available on Sat, Sun and public holiday from Choa Chu Kang and Boon Lay MRT stations.
Opening hours: 9.00am – 6.00pm (Monday to Thursday), 9.00am – 7.00pm (Friday to Sunday and public holidays)
Admission: Free of charge (Guided tours for groups are available at cost. Booking is required.)

You might be thinking that there would probably be nothing exciting and interesting to see since it's just a fish farm but no, one of their main highlights is their Fish Spa!

If I am not mistaken, the market price for fish spa is about $20 to $30 for half an hour, but here at Qian Hu Fish Farm, it is only at $10 for half an hour! Towels and slippers will be provided as well, so isn't that a good deal?

First time doing the fish spa, how can we not be excited? Let's go!
Here at the fish spa station, it is a totally different look from the fish farm! More like a resort!
Other than fish farm, you can also pay $5 to catch some fish from these ponds!
.. or feed these hungry turtles at $1 for turtle food
First, we have to take off our shoes and change to slippers. Then, we are handed towels to wipe our feet when everything is over
We did the fish spa together!
I might look happy, but trust me, I was about to burst out in laughter because the fish nibbles are just so ticklish!
Dear was more adventurous! After 10 mins or so, he went over to the other pool where the fishes are much much BIGGER!
That look just shows it all :)
.. Still hanging on, controlling..
And here I am, still in the small pool with small fishes, trying to tolerate and endure!

Check out the sign! Big Fishes! Dear is a gung ho!
Tada! Our clean and smooth feet!
Nearing the end of the fish spa, dear was satisfied and enjoying himself. For me, I was still squirming about and giggling!
Fish spa! We'll come back for more, hopefully! Here are the rest of the pictures:
